White binding and an ebony fretboard lend this axe a cool look. The mahogany body and neck are fitted with a maple top and rosewood fretboard. A supremely playable '50s neck design has a smaller peghead, push-in-bushing green tuning keys, and nickel hardware. Burstbucker Pro pickups use '50s style Alnico V magnets. Following the '50s and early '60s "Patent Applied For"s technique, one coil has more wraps than the other. These waxed, double-potted pickups deliver a focused, balanced, cutting tone with fat midrange.

  • What a serial number can and can't tell about your Gibson

Like a fingerprint or a social security number, the series of digits inked or impressed on the back of a Gibson headstock can go a long way toward identifying a guitar. But, with more than 75 years of shipping records in the Gibson books, and dozens of variations on numerical schemes used over the years, serial numbers sometimes do little to shed light on the origin of a mysterious Gibson.
