For someone that uses a whole host of virtual instruments running on a PC as a sound module, the UF8 is a dream to use.
Unfortunately it has been discontinued, but the next model can only improve further on the UF8's massive achievements.
The faders, dials and buttons on the UF8 are really conducive to an excellent live performance. I use them to layer sounds and to tweak them as I'm playing. You'll not regret buying this keyboard, as it's such a fantastic combination of Piano (with the action taken from very expensive pianos), Midi Controller (USB or MIDI) and show-off piece (yes, it is, really)!

UF8 = You gotta be kidding me!

I give the CME Uf8 a 4 only because I appreciate the fact the the company TRIED to make a keyboard as good as the UF8 was promised could be. Complete disappointment! It is virtually unplayable as it has no expression and if you don't play music like a robot..this is a problem. I recorded some multi tracks in logic of strings and woodwinds using this keyboard nd it sounds horrible. The velociy curve function is bogus and aftertouch? What aftertouch? Keys are also way too hard to play and sometimes stick. Great idea but this keyboard should never have been launched in it's current design. It is not in my mind consumer ready. While the folks at CME head back to the drawing board, I'll be returning the UF8 tomorrow and buy (again) the M audio keystation 88 which is now...I think a pretty good keyboard. Peace, out!

  • Part 3: Section 1: MIDI controllers

Long live software instruments! Gone are the days when you needed a stack of keyboards to create tunes, as everything can now be done inside your computer at the click of a mouse. However, do you really want to be playing all of that software with a mouse? Wouldn’t you rather be doing it all with a proper piano type keyboard? Eh? So doesn’t that mean a return to piles of keyboard again, the very thing that software replaced? No! All you need is one keyboard to control every soft instrument you own! So you’d better make sure it’s a good one, right? Yes, and fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your viewpoint, there are loads of different sorts to choose from so we will discuss all of them here. And if you already own a keyboard but need extra control, don’t worry, because in Section 2 we’ll be looking at some keyboardless controllers that will enhance your desktop music making no end…
