This unit does come with Cd drive
As usual with Fostex, everything you see on, and in, the new VF160 is there for a reason. No wild-sounding features which just get in the way of the creative process.
No convoluted functions which make recording a chore.
DIGITAL RECORDING
At the heart of the VF160 is a non-compressed 16-bit linear / 44.1kHz recording engine which features up to 16 track simultaneous recording, (when using ADAT and analog inputs), to an internal (user upgradable) E-IDE hard disc.
In addition, there are 8 extra (and so very useful), ?ghost? tracks giving you immense flexibility. Great for trying out different vocal, guitar, drum etc. parts and for generating alternate mixes of your 16-track masterpieces.
TRUE DIGITAL MIXING
The VF160 has a completely digital mixer. This means that when you perform tasks such as overdubbing, track bouncing, effect processing and mixdown, your audio never leaves the digital domain. No build-up of hiss. No audio deterioration.
The ?distortion and hiss-free? input stages (including 2 with XLR, inserts and +48v phantom power), feature trim pots and peak LEDs and can handle almost anything you can throw at them from the lowest of low level mic signals to the hottest instrument signal.
There?s a great 3-band EQ with parametric mid & high on all 16 channels to enable you crisp up, add punch, cut hiss or increase the depth of your sound.
There?s also a separate EQ for the master, assignable channel compressors (ch 13 + 14 or ch 15 + 16 with EQ off), & master compressor, 2 AUX sends per channel for adding external effects, a monitor out with level control and handy insert points on inputs G & H for adding compressors, limiters, etc.
Plus, a stereo mixed source can be digitally transferred to an external digital recorder thru S/P DIF.
Other handy features include fader pairing for easy ?one-fader? control of stereo fader sets, channel solo which allows any number of channels to be placed into solo mode quickly and easily, and a 100 mix scene memory so you can save and restore favourite mix settings.
ADAT MIXING
In fact, the VF160?s mixer is so good you?ll want to use it all the time. And you can because Fostex have included a new ADAT mixing mode. Hook up a VF160 to an ADAT compatible, computer-based audio/MIDI set-up and use it as a full function mixer with its high-quality mic amps, digital EQ and effects processing available for inputs and simultaneous monitoring of the audio on the PC, each with their own fader.
NON LINEAR EDITING
Naturally, as the VF160 uses a digital non-linear recording system full audio editing is available and aided by the ability to display scrubbed audio graphically with the new Scrub Zoom feature allowing graphic ?zoom-in? of the current waveform display by up to 16 times, meaning that edit points can be precisely selected.
Plus, with clipboard data available to be pasted to the same, another, or multiple tracks and automatically repeated up to 99 times, you can become a re-mix wizard in a matter of minutes.
And if you like that, you?ll love the fact that the VF160 can export and import audio (all tracks, one track or any part of a track) as standard ?.WAV? files, meaning that editing, processing and sound file conversion can be accomplished using popular PC music software.

You can order your VF160 with an optional CD-R/RW drive which will allow you to master digital audio CD?s. But that?s not all. Hard disc data can also be backed up to data CDs.
VF160?s supplied without a CD-R/RW drive can be user-upgraded by easily fitting (just like a PC) Model CD-1A which is available separately.
UPGRADABLE HARD DRIVE
The removable plate on the underside of a VF160 allows you to change the internal E-IDE hard drive. A larger hard drive means more recording time.

ADAT MIXER MODE
When using PC/Mac-based audio/midi software and an ADAT audio card, the VF160 can be used as a full function mixer with its high-quality mic amps, digital EQ and effects processing available for inputs. Simultaneous monitoring of audio tracks on the PC is also available, each with their own fader.
