M-Audio Fast Track USB Audio Interface Reviews

Excellent for beginners, not so great for advanced recordings...

The Fast Track USB is M-Audio's entry level USB Interface. It has an XLR input for microphones, a 1/4 Jack input for Direct Input of guitars or other instruments, and an RCA output for your monitors.

It is the perfect device if you are inexperienced with music technology. It will work with Pro Tools M-Powered, and any other recording program you may use. It's cross platform compatible, and will work on OS X or XP.

Of course, for this price range you wouldn't expect outstanding results. But it does give fairly impressive results for what it is. It is only a 48Khz device with no Phantom Power support for condenser microphones, so whilst it is not the device you are after if you want to start making studio recordings, it is ideal for songwriters or bands wishing to make a cheap demo. It produces perfectly audible results.

It was very easy to setup, and I would thoroughly reccomend this to inexperienced users, since it provides a good basis for recording startups. After you have mastered the basics, it would be time to move onto something more advanced with a higher sound recording quality and phantom power support.

Awesome piece of equipment. Works great for recording with my laptop. The only bad thing about it is that the instuction manual is lacking. If someone didnt have a pretty good background in music already they would probably have a challenge trying to put things together.
