Line 6 POD xt Pro Description

The Line6 PODXT Pro takes all of the benefits of PODxt and puts them into the ultimate rack-mount unit with all of the input/output options for the Professional recording environment - including 24 bit/96KHz digital outputs. PODxt Pro features 32 groundbreaking amp models built from the award-winning technology found in our flagship Vetta amplifier, and includes modeled stompbox effects (including distortion boxes), full-time compression, A.I.R. II cabinet/microphone modeling, stereo effects loop, balanced XLR outs for the studio, unbalanced 1/4" outs for live applications, TRS line in and unprocessed guitar output, AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital ins and outs, and USB.

How is PODXT Pro different from PODXT?

POD XT Pro is a 2U rack mounted version of the kidney shaped POD XT. The PODxt Pro has a built in power supply and more In/Out capability than the PODxt. These expanded options include AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital inputs and outputs, TRS Line input, TRS Unprocessed Guitar output, XLR outputs for studio/mixing board, 1/4'' outputs for live use, a Stereo effects loop, and USB capability.

How is PODXT Pro different from POD Pro?

In addition to 32 new groundbreaking amp models and 22 cabinet models built from the award-winning technology found in our flagship Vetta amplifier, POD XT Pro delivers 6 simultaneous effects (choose from more than 45 classic models of stompbox and studio effects) that can be flexibly routed to meet your unique sonic needs. In addition, POD XT Pro offers USB support for Digital Audio In & Out, an intuitive screen display for deep patch editing, and Flash memory that allows for easy upgrades so you can always incorporate the latest innovations from Line 6 as they become available. Different from the original version, POD XT Pro has AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital inputs, selectable digital output resolution of up to 24 bit / 96 KHz, a USB connector for more digital audio and MIDI features and POD XT Pro is also compatible with GuitarPort software. The effects loops on/off state is storable per-patch and controllable remotely as well as being switchable between series/parallel.

What does the USB port do?

POD XT Pro driver software allows direct digital recording of POD XT Pro to your Mac or PC via the USB connection, plus the ability to use POD XT Pro to play back audio from your computer like a soundcard. The latest drivers are available for download from Line6.

Compatible Foot Controllers

Both the FBV and FBV Shortboard are compatible with POD XT Pro. The FBV Shortboard gives basic control and the FBV adds more control over stompboxes and effects, as well as dedicated wah and volume pedals.

Live PODXT Pro Use

The PODxt Pro features a "live mode" that gives you the best of both worlds when playing live. Just use the XLR outputs to feed the sound board for pristine board-ready tone and simultaneously use the 1/4" outputs, which are optimized for your onstage amp & cabs.

Line 6 POD xt Pro Reviews

Line 6 Pod XT Pro

Andy French

Rating: 9/10

I have been using the Pod XT Pro in the recording arena and I am very, very happy with it. I haven’t explored the full capabilities of digital I.O. etc. (which is really what the Pro version gives you over other Pod units) but in general operation the thing performs fantastically. I tend to favour tight high-gain sounds and the Pod XT Pro delivers these in spades. If you use the free Line6 software (e.g. Line6 Edit) creating, editing and saving patches is a doddle and the software gives you an all-in-one view of the tone creation process.

If there is a negative it is common to many a piece rack-mounted music hardware; the small illuminated display on the unit itself, although entirely usable, doesn’t provide you with the big picture and tone creation can be a bit fiddly if you resort to that mode of operation. I have also found that the display can be a little hard to see in strong daylight especially if you look at it from an angle.

Probably the biggest plus to me is the fact that the unit is so quiet when not in operation. I have recorded live amps or recorded direct with other preamps (e.g. the Marshall JMP-1) and all such units hum or hiss to keep themselves company when not in active use especially when high gain settings have been dialled in. The Pod XT Pro doesn’t suffer from this affliction being blissfully silent.

I have also purchased the add-on packs from Line 6. Purchase, download and installation was simple and I now have more TONE than you can shake a stick at.

Overall I am very impressed and pleased with unit. Highly recommended.
