This has to be one of the best deals this year!!
A full version of Steinberg Cubase SL3 plus the fantastic Steinberg MI4 Audio/MIDI interface (designed by RME)

All for £199.00!!

We have limited stocks - First come, first served!

Cubase System|4 is Steinberg’s first integrated music production system, featuring MI4, a powerful and versatile 4-channel USB Audio and 16-channel MIDI interface, and Steinberg’s world-class sequencer Cubase SL3.  Designed as a cross platform music production and audio editing solution, it’s one of the most feature-rich systems of its kind, setting a new standard for USB audio hardware and software integration.

Cubase SL3 Features Highlights:

  • Audio Warp: Realtime Time Stretching and Pitch Shifting offer extensive new audio editing and processing capabilities, including ACID? File support: loops automatically adopt a project?s tempo; audio files can follow tempo changes in realtime.
  • Intuitive Play Order Track for pattern-based arranging adds a new level of creative music editing. Divide your song into sections, and then re-arrange it on the fly. Compare alternative versions of your song and then convert them back into a linear form for mixdown and mastering.
  • User-definable Workspaces (window layouts) help organizing your desktop. Create and save a separate workspace for each step of the production process. Switch Workspaces on the fly, as if working on multiple computers or monitors.
  • Extended Freeze function for virtual instruments and audio tracks with added flexibility and improved performance. Freeze virtual instruments with or without insert effects. Then automatically unload the instrument to free up RAM. Freeze audio tracks with insert effects to free up even more CPU performance.
  • New part-based Volume Envelopes for direct control of dynamics. Fix level problems on the fly without wasting automation tracks. Then move events with their volume envelopes.
  • User-definable Color Coding for tracks and VST mixer channels provides more clarity and better orientation ? especially in complex projects.
  • SL3?s Extended Track Inspector now offers direct access to a VST Instrument?s audio channel strip directly from the MIDI track inspector. In fact, it puts both the MIDI and audio channel?s parameters into one single column making it more accessible and easier to use.
  • When a song is transferred between systems, all plug-in and virtual instrument links stay intact even when some of them are missing on another system. A so-called Dummy Plug-in replaces missing plug-ins until the project is opened on the original system and the plug-ins are back in place.
  • Ever lost a great idea because you forgot to hit ?Record?? With Audio Pre Record this will never happen again! Simply set up the amount of time for pre-recording (up to 10 minutes) and whatever you play within that window will be recorded into any record-enabled track ? before you actually hit record.
  • A redesigned and overall improved Hitpoint Detection Algorithm now offers more accurate results and easier handling. Choose between presets for different types of audio material or apply Q-points to Hitpoints for more accurate quantization and warping.

MI4 Feature Highlights:

  • 4 audio I/O high-quality 24-bit/96 kHz USB Interface
  • 2 professional quality microphone preamps
  • 16 channel MIDI I/O
  • S/PDIF stereo I/O

System Requirements:

Processor:

  • Pentium / Athlon 800 MHz (Pentium / Athlon 1.4 GHz or faster recommended)
  • PowerMac G4 867 MHz (PowerMac G4 Dual 1,25 GHz or faster recommended)

RAM:

  • Windows - 384 MB (512 MB recommended)
  • Mac - 384 MB (512 MB recommended)

Operating System:

  • Windows 2000, Windows XP Home or XP Professional
  • Mac OS X 10.2.5 or higher

Graphics:

  • Windows - Display Resolution 1024 x 768 pixels (Display Resolution 1152 x 864 pixels, dual monitor setup recommended)
  • Mac - Display Resolution 1024 x 768 pixels (Display Resolution 1152 x 864 pixels, dual monitor setup recommended)

Other Components:

  • Windows - USB component connector required. The Cubase SL version included in Cubase System|4 requires the MI4 audio interface to be attached to the computer
  • Mac - USB component connector required. The Cubase SL version included in Cubase System|4 requires the MI4 audio interface to be attached to the computer

Cubase System 4 Review

Rating: 9/10

Having purchased Cubase System 4 a few months ago I have to say I’ve become somewhat of a Cubase convert! Steinberg's System 4 has been a great way to move into the world of computer recording and I imagine the ease of use and portability will appeal to most; especially the guitarists, keyboard players and songwriters among us.

The MI4 unit is housed in a compact brushed metal casing and is strong and well built. Although basically a four in, four out unit, the MI4 will cater for pretty much all your needs; mic preamp inputs, an array of jack sockets, midi connections, stereo output etc. Also, as with many units in this price bracket the whole unit is powered through the USB plug connection. Although these kind of units do have some slight disadvantages in that the bandwidth is somewhat limited (resulting in some slight latency on occasions) I haven’t found this to be a major problem and feel that the simplicity of this setup balances out this small problem. As an added bonus the MI4 has the license control software built in, so there’s no need to use up precious USB ports with an annoying dongle (thankfully though both the software and hardware in this package are still compatible with any other software or hardware!). At the front of the MI4 the panel is well set out and un-cluttered and displays an instrument input, gain controls, direct signal monitor control, headphone output with its own dedicated volume control and a master output level knob all with corresponding (bright!) LED indicators. In terms of the installation drivers, Steinberg have worked wonders; simply run the CD and follow the prompts. Everything appears, clearly labeled on the desktop and is then very simply configured. I have also found the audio quality to be of a very high standard for a unit of this price, with all the input/outputs being very clear and ‘neutral’.

In terms of the SL3 software, there are very few negatives to point out. It is extremely intuitive and I have found it actually encourages you to be creative. There is an unlimited number of audio and midi tracks to use and it must be one of the most flexible sequencers around adapting to almost any application. Although being Cubase’ mid range software you really won’t find many differences between this and their flagship sequencer SX3, which is quite something when you look at the price.

Overall the package is extremely comprehensive, with the MI4 unit being very versatile and the Cubase SL3 software not only being very powerful but also one of the most user friendly sequencers I’ve had the pleasure of recording with. Being aimed at the mid range market, some very professional sounds are still quite possible to achieve. Aside from the slight latency mentioned earlier (which all units of this kind suffer), I would easily recommend the Cubase System 4 as a complete solution for almost all levels of compact studios. As far as competition goes at this level Cubase System 4 is hard to beat, with the Digidesign M-Box 2 & Pro Tools LE package being the only real competitor. In the software stakes Logic LE doesn’t come close in terms of being intuitive, flexible and easy to use and as for the MI4 unit I think it could well give the M-Box 2 a run for its money. Not only this but the price of the Cubase System 4 comes in at a fair bit less than the Digidesign/Pro Tools option...I found it an easy choice to make!

The software is great, but the hardware just plain doesn't work. I'd advise anyone who's thinking of buying this product to think twice. I thought I was getting an all in package from a reputable manufacturer that would work fine, but actually it the hardware drivers are buggy has hell and it is just not worth the hastle. Buy cubase and a seperate sound card over this.
