The D 5 dynamic vocal microphone for lead and backing vocals delivers a powerful sound even on the noisiest stage. Its supercardioid polar pattern ensures maximum gain before feedback. The D 5 stands for a crisp sound that cuts through every mix.

AKG made the first microphone diaphragm ever whose thickness varies across its diameter. The new Laminated Varimotion diaphragm deep-drawing process allows the diaphragm itself to be fine-tuned with no extra tuning resonators, leading to a quantum leap in audio performance.

The dual shock mount eliminates any kind of mechanical noise for trouble-free live use. The audience will hear nothing but the pristine sound of your voice!

Varimotion Technology

This provides better control of the capsule resonance, reducing the need for expensive mechanical tuning resonators in the shaft to a minimum. Varimotion diaphragms can vibrate freely, providing a much crisper, cleaner sound than conventional designs.
In addition, Emotion Series microphones use a neodymium (NdFeBr) magnet system to deliver an extremely powerful output signal. This will make your vocals cut through the loudest of rhythm sections.

AKG D5, best ever?

I recently purchased simply as an alternative to my many 58\'s and to start replacing my stock of more mature d3700\'s. However from its first use I was totally blown away by its staggering tone the ability to control it so well!
Indeed recently I lined it up with several new neumann (km 105\'s) on a quite good rig (MIDAS XL4, and HK Line aray) the difference between this £500 and £50 mic is minimal, several (urm) more experianced engineers were also equally impressed. I have since replaced my older mics completely and were it not for the idiots I often have to work for or hire to, would replace my 58\'s and perhaps neumanns!

Better than a 58!

I bought one of these on behalf of a client who specifically specced it in an installation contract. I was blown away by both the build quality and the sound quality. It sounds far more transparent than a 58 and brings a whole new layer to the traditional 58 sound. It doesnt sound different in character, just "thicker"... Needless to say I have already started using these myself and as my 58's die, they are being replaced slowly but surely with these.

I have always used Shure SM 58s as a a vocal mic, but when was stolen and needed to be replaced I read a few product reviews. The AKG is a great mic and in side by side tests appears to heve a little more punch and definition than the sm58. I also have an AKG C5 condenser version which is in a different league again. I highly recommend both of these mics.

This is a wicked addition to my hire rig - traqditionally I have alsways sent out 58's, but due to the amount of people swapping them for fakes, I had to look for a different model. I didn't think I would find anything, until the guys at dolphin reccomended this to me. I am blown away, not only does it sound better, but I think it might be tougher than a 58. I reckon you could put nails into plasterboard with this thing!

All I can say is well done Shure, you did it for me for years, but its time to mover over, the new king of the road is here!

I purchased one of these microphones as an alternative to the SM58, the mic you see virtually EVERYWHERE in all professional live situations. The signal is always crisp and clear, its reliable (in that it always works) and its a great price! highly recommended to anyone looking for a great quality live mic. just BUY IT!

I have recently purchased the AKG D5 vocal mic, as a guitarist/singer this mic was recommended to me for its ability to pick up only the vocalist and not any unwanted drum or guitar frequencies and it does exactly that.
This mic also offers good clarity with a definite leaning towards boosting low end which so many mics lose.
It appears to be very well manufactured with a robust metal grill and solid body and comes with its own gig bag.
For the price and obvious quality it comes highly recommended.
