Designed for use in personal music production systems, each unit features a built-in 20-watt amplifier that drives both the 10cm (4") cone and 2.2cm (7/8") tweeter.
To facilitate connection with a variety of audio sources, each monitor is equipped with a balanced XLR input, for direct compatibility with professional equipment, a balanced phone jack input and an unbalanced RCA jack input. The MSP3 also features separate volume controls for the LINE 1 (RCA jack) input and LINE 2 (XLR/phone) input plus HIGH and LOW tone controls for sound tailoring.
The enclosure is a bass-reflex type that also incorporates Yamaha's Waveguide Technology for uniform dispersion of the tweeter's high frequencies. Magnetic shielding and compact size allows the monitors to be placed near any type of audio, video or computer equipment. The monitor can also be attached to a mic stand with the optional BMS10A Mic Stand Adapter.

As a small project studio musician my criteria for new acquisitions are clear.

Must fit into my ever decreasing home studio space.
I had used the MSP3's larger brother the MSP 10 in another studio. Very nice they were indeed but not really suitable for my "cottage" set up.
My faith in Yamaha's pedigree has not let me down on choosing MSP3's as near field monitors.
Stright out of the box and coupled to my MBox I was impressed. Great treble response across a wide range coupled with suprisingly good bass response from such a small beast. The rotary controls at the foot of the woofer are easily accessible and positive to operate and do "exactly as they say on the label".
These, for me, give me exactly what I want in near field monitoring. A crisp, no fuss picture of what I'm working on.
I guess that this now leaves me wondering about my other (aging)monitors that I use to "amaze" my nearest neighbours with "big listens".
My experience of Yamaha has been excellent and Dolphin's service is, as always, second to none.
I'll be back (soon).
