I just switched to the Hot Rod Deluxe after years of using a Marshall TSL setup and I\'m amazed at the sound and capabilities of this combo.
It\'s astonishingly loud for 40watts out of a single 12\" speaker, can easily handle any practise or gig with the loudest of drummers. The clean channel is what you\'d expect from Fender, sparkling and warm, and despite the bad reviews about the drive channel on this amp I was really impressed. Fair enough it won\'t do all out metal, but it sounds amazing for many types of heavy rock, and as soon as you stick an overdrive in front it gives you everything you need for screaming solos.
The EQ is responsive, allowing you to dial a wide range of tones, especially with the use of the presence control on top, it sounds brillaint no matter what volume you\'re at too, but obviously the real sweetness comes the louder it gets. The reverb is a great sounding classic spring affair, but like another review said it would be amazing if they made it switchable.
My only other let down with this amp is the lack of a master volume control, as you have to tweak clean and drive channels seperately each time you wish to turn up or down, but for an amp of this standard, at this price I\'m not going to complain!
Highly recommended for any level of guitarist looking for great cleans, versatility and reliability.

I have been using this amp as part of my life and studio rig for about 4 years. There are many good things about it, the clean tone is amazing, the reverb is amazing, the eq is really responsive and the overall clean tone is outstanding, easy as good as any boutique amp. The distortion channel is more of an overdrive channel, and anyone looking for heavy or metal distortion will think this amp is shit, because it simply doesn\'t do meaty! However, if you are after a smooth, and mellow lead for blues or funk, then this will be great. However a distortion unit like a DS-1 or MXR overdrive pedal is highly recommended to get the most out of this amp. Drive is hard with a GOOD overdrive pedal and you will get an amazing tone that you make you not want to stop! I wish this amp had seperate volume/gain/eq for each channel, and I wish the footswitch would switch off the reverb, but otherwise, this is a wise investment.
