Auralex Sonomatt-48 2" Acoustic Tiles - Charcoal

Auralex Sonomatt-48 2" Acoustic Tiles - Charcoal

The perfect product for the budget-conscious, yet acoustically-discerning, customer. Sonomatt acoustic foam panels are cut in the industry standard "eggcrate" style to keep its price low & absorbs almost as well as 2" Studiofoam Wedges, but it still outperforms competing "premium" brands that cost way more! Due to the manufacturing process we use, Sonomatt's dimple pattern will not be…

Laney VC15-110 Review

Daniel Macfarlane (August 19, 2015)
Rating: 10/10

The Laney is a 15 watt all tube amplifier, boasting "pure class A/B" tones in a rugged yet compact design. The first thing you will noitce with this amplifier is just how light it is. On paper, 14Kg is still heavy, but when compared to amplifiers of a similar wattage it is just incredible. It is also incredibly well built, and in a simplistic manner, very pretty too.

My reason for buying this amp is because I am due to start at music college soon (RNCM), and I needed an amp to be versatile enough to allow me to work within many musical contexts, light but rugged enough to be carried around a city without any real struggles, and mostly, to have that fabled valve tone without breaking the bank should it need to be replaced.

The clean sounds, for me, are a perfect hybrid of a classic Brittish AC sound with a more Dexule American style, and works very well with the built in Reverb (I have it on 10 constantly, and it really enhances the natura tone of the amplifier). Of course, the beauty of a small wattage tube amp is that they can be cranked, but this Laney has suprising headroom, and can easilly be perfectly clean for a Jazz gig whilst even at a high volume. Engaging the bright switch adds a very musical chime to any instrument, and works particularly well with inbetween strat style sounds and otherwise muddy neck humbuckers. Engaging drive mode allows for a seperate drive and drive volume to be introduced. The most musical setting, in my opinion, is with the drive low but the volume higher, and this gives a wonderfully bluesy tone, very reminiscant of SRV. However, at full OD, the amp can really snarl, and with the use of a Tube Screamer you can achieve very convincing Paul Gilbert tones. The EQ consists of the classic Bass, Middle, and Treble, which unlike most other tube amps i've played, is incredibly responsive, and with the use of the Tone knob (cleverly situated at the end of the signal flow) you can create a vast array of valve tones.

Overall, I am incredibly impressed with the Laney VC15-110. Throughout the tones you will create, comes a comforting, timeless and exciting overtone which is only found in a tube amplifier of high quality, and at a price like this, it is almost perfect. The only other bonus that could have been added was a footswitch, but this doesn't hinder on the tone in any way what-so-ever.

A final thanks would have to go to Dolphin Music. Living in the Channel Islands can be tricky at best, but the service provided by the company has been outstanding. The amplifier came direct from Laney, and was recieved within a week of purchasing.

The only amp you need for your home!

Colin Mcsloy (July 31, 2015)
Rating: 8/10

Been waiting to get my hands on this for ages, was struggling to find this in red at a reasonable price and when I saw this bundled with free footswitch it was all the temptation I needed to pull the trigger.

Was really looking for a space saving amp that could combine bass and electric in one as space is limited in my flat. Mainly use this for practicing bass and recording bass/electric guitar so this seemed ideal for my circumstances. I had previously had bought a blackstar id core 10 which I liked but when I heard of this it sounded even better.

It's a really light and dinky little amp, a little lower than the id core 10 and perhaps a little wider. Tried it first with the bass and it sounds great, my main concern was that it wouldn't be "bassy" enough but it does the job admirably. The bass channels are definitely a little bit quieter than the electric channels at full volume but you still get them at a very reasonable volume with no discernible distortion or rattle. The distortion/fuzz/od/overdrive takes the place of the reverb on the bass modes rather than been dialled in using the gain knob. This is cool because you can use the foot-switch to turn the distortion on or off without changing channels on the amp. The bass modes also have an envelope filter that is really fun to play with and could be useful for recording.

Next I tried it with an electric guitar and was surprised that it actually sounds better than the id core despite having identical controls and features on these channels. Don't know if this is down to the extra wattage or due to better speakers being required for the bass and music aspect of the amp. Guitar seemed to have more low end and presence in general.

Hooking it up to your phone/ipad or laptop is when this really starts to differ from other amps. Fired up youtube and was jamming along to some music straight away. My friends and I have regular jam seasons where we do a bunch of covers and when we are struggling with timing or unsure of chords etc. someone usually pulls out their phone and we all strain to hear it. Next jam I'm taking this bad buy along and problem solved. Have also used this to listen to podcasts and music while I do the dishes and the sound quality is generally excellent. However there is a very slight background hiss on this amp which is barely discernible but obviously it would be better if it wasn't there at all. Perhaps this will be sorted with future firmware updates.

Plugged in an electro acoustic and the first acoustic channel is a little underwhelming but the 2nd channel sounds really good. Delays and reverbs sound awesome with acoustic.

I was familiar with the insider software from the id core beam and it works really well, allows you to put together and store patches, allows allows you to use eq not present on amp. Something i hadn't noticed before and might actually only be on id core beam is that you can output a clean un-amped output along with as well as a processed output. So for example you can record on two tracks on garageband simultaneously, one clean, one dirty. This is great if you realise the maybe that weird chorus and flange combination was over the top you at least have a clean track to fall back on. You can also blend a clean and distorted guitar and bass. Worth noting the slight hiss is not present when you record via usb

I really can't recommend this amp enough and it wasn't for the slightly annoying hiss I would have given it 10 out of 10.

pro's- Looks great
Sound's great
Very useful tool for recording and practising
insanely flexible

Con's- Slight hiss

Wow..wow..wow..I'm an experienced guitarist of over 40 years. Have played loads of guitars, and owned and parted with tons of them. I read some amazing reviews on this guitar this past few months, and some who literally drooled over it. Hence why I decided simply based on those words of wisdom ordered one through my local music store. After trying it for couple of minutes I took it home with me. It sounded okay for the price, but a bit boomy. I liked it but wasn't over impressed. But knowing enough about guitars that then always change a bit avenues improving in time I began to play it a lot. Within 3 days it did begin to change, and wow..it started to chime... loudly. Not only is this beginning to sound fantastic, unbelievable, it's so easy to play. I can now understand why those reviewers raved over this thing. I cannot praise this guitar enough, but I will, by stating it's unbelievable price...under £150. I love this, it's a monster sound too. Thanks again Washburn.

Yeah.... The foot switch does the business. I got one.
Got confused at first 'cos the plug don't go all the way into the pedal, but it works just the same.

I also downloaded the manual by just putting in Digitech trio manual and it's now in I-books.
It helps clarify things but just playing with the pedal is just out of this World for me.
Drummers and bass players can now all go and find a new band to play in.... Lol

The bass playing on the Trio is just 'insane'....
If I was a woman I'd marry it and have it's babies.....
This is really gonna change my life.....
It's totally suited to an acoustic guitar as well..... Nobody's done that on the videos....
I gotta go and snap up all the gigs before everyone else buys one....

Guitar worth ten times the amount ! It really is that good :) mine has lightweight body , action is a dream , colour looks killer , nothing to fault ,
Get one before fender realise their mistake in pricing & these will be discontinued , this one runs rings round my USA & Mexican strats !
I also have a classic vibe Tele which sounds better than my USA premium ash model :) both have classic tone rider pickups which I would never change , in fact DONT change anything in either of these guitars , well done fender squire China BRILLIANT JOB !!!!

Top quality however be aware of limitations

Jonny Harvey (March 3, 2015)
Rating: 8/10

As far as relatively portable Audio devices go the Apollo Twin is one of the highest quality I have ever seen. The interface is very tactile and a joy to use. This is very suited to a small professional project studio or someone having to do some recording with a mobile setup. The almost zero latency when tracking through the device with plugins is quite out of the ordinary. The UAD plugins are quite good, however pricey, plus you'll be doing a lot of bouncing down with effects as the SHARC chips on the Twin Duo can't handle many concurrent instances and the Solo handles half of that. Another limitation, other than the obvious support for MAC only currently, is these plugin's cannot be used without the Thunderbolt device which cannot be used without a power socket. This limits anyone who needs to work on mixes away from their studio/desk as the plugins will not function without the hardware. Could be a deal breaker for some and something I've found a little annoying. On the other hand the device can be essentially used live as a pre-amp with the plug-ins and a laptop which is quite revolutionary. So we have good and bad, but still all in all top quality, but you will end up paying for more plugins. I ended upgrading from the Solo as I couldn't even run those I wanted to use live tracking on one channel. Personally I think the Twin Solo is suited to very limited setups however I can manage to do more with the Twin Duo and would recommend that as the default choice.

I was looking for a cheap, small practice amp to just play at home, no big deal. Found this Fly 3 as it was a new release and, for the price, it's great value, due to the delay effect!

This parlour guitar is a lovely size to play when sitting down, much more comfortable than a full size. It has good volume for a small guitar and had nice tone out of the box. Most of the features are very nice especially if you like a high gloss finish the only thing I dont like is the pickguard which is a bit cheap plastic looking. Overall a very nice guitar. What I would highly recommend is Dolphin Music, their staff esp Simon and Steven are excellent!they were so helpful when dealing with my purchase and delivery is super quick.
