The Tanglewood TW-170AS is in my view the best smaller bodied acoustic guitar in its price range - and by some margin.
The build quality is excellent, the action fairly low and the intonation is perfect all the way up the neck. It also stays in tune for long periods.
However, where this guitar really beats the opposition is in the tone department - the solid tonewoods deliver a superb full sound that belies its modest price tag and compares favourably with some expensive Martins that I've played! The balance is perfect, with deep bass, warm mids and pure ringing trebles. This is also a very responsive guitar with excellent projection and an "attitude" that more expressive guitarists will certainly enjoy.
It is perhaps at its best as a fingerpicking guitar where the excellent top end detail is a real bonus. However, it still has a big enough body to cope with strumming, where the sound compresses nicely.
This is a real player's acoustic guitar which would represent outstanding value even at double the price. Mine travels everywhere with me!
Highly recommended!!
