Ampeg BA300/115

Ampeg BA300/115

At 40 lbs., the Ampeg BA300/115 combo redefines the term, "portability." Although it packs a 15" LF driver, an HF horn (with Level control), and 300 watts of pure Ampeg output into just over four cubic feet, the BA300/115 is ultra-transportable. And you get all the Ampeg tone-shaping you’ve grown accustomed to, thanks to its 12AX7 tube preamp, Style control,…

BA3001/115 review

I bought this combo from Dolphin last week, already I can safely say that this is the best sounding amp that I have ever owned. I play an '84 Japanese Fender precision and the tone is absolutely amazing. You can have a deep toneful creamy bass sound that still cuts through the mix with a real valve punch that will give you "trouser flap" if you stand in front of it. Try as I might I could not make this amp sound fuzzy or honkey. All of the sounds are usable, and all of them are both sweet and punchy. The amp is pretty small (makes a good seat in rehearsals) but is not that amazingly light, probably propotionately what you would expect when confronted with larger bits of gear. Although one could handle carrying the thing by its suitcase handle, it is much easier with two using the lightweight fold-out carrying handles on the sieds. I would say for portability: uncomfortable for one, dead easy for two. Overall the build quality looks very nice to me, (although I have head some recent criticism of Ampeg's build quality), but the cabinet is fairly lightweight and does not look very robust at all, with tiny plastic corners and thin wood sides. I would flight-case this if I was going to chuck it in the back of a van with a load of other gear. Other bad points include the lack of an extension speaker output - a 4x10 or 2x10 cab for larger gigs would make this the complete package.

In conclusion, this amp sounds so good it'll make you cry, and cuts through the mix in rehearsals with ease. Unfortunately it does not push a lot of air and looks delicate, which pretty much consigns it to smaller gigs unless you are DIing or miking it up.

BA115

The BA115 is a perfect practice amp.

This statement can sound strange as it carries the prestigious Ampeg brand, it is rather big (15inches Speaker..).
If you search the web you’ll find contrasted reviews of the BA115.. mainly because it’s Ampeg name, it’s very often judged as a classical « professional » amp what it is not.

It’s a practice amp (the aux RCA are a good example) and a dam good one.

You can get a real growling bass sound at apartment level (pretty low) the design is superb it's built like a tank.

On the drawback sides, the aux entries a pretty bad, the "Ampeg sound" comes mainly from the speaker so phones output is so so.. and the beast is pretty big (small apartments, forget it)

For the price, usually you get an amp that look sand sound like a toy, here Ampeg provides a real personal amp that makes your bass sound like a bass and that you can use to jam with friends (don’t be fooled by the official 100W, in reality it seems closer to 75 the power is not enormous).

I use a Squier Jazz Bass Vintage Modified, and the BA115 is in the same spirit. The Squier is "nearly" like a real US Jazz bass but at a much much lower price, the BA115 is "nearly" like a real Ampeg bass amp, but at a much much lower price.

On the sound aspect, the BA115 as only one sound (but a dam good one). It’s the ragging, bassy, growling Ampeg sound. To play blues or jazz it’s perfect, I’m not sure it can fit ant musical style.

The Ampeg SVT-410HLF Enclosure gives you plenty of volume and clean low end. This 4x10" cabinet has the same speakers and 1" horn as the SVT-410HE with 2" coils and 30 oz. magnets, but the cabinet itself is tuned differently. It's deeper and has a bottom port that results in better low-end response, down to 28Hz! 30"W x 24"H x…

The ampeg SVT410HLF is an amazing sounding cabinet, providing superb lows and crisp high end response. The four 10 inch speakers work together to produce more physical bass than two 18 inch speakers, or three 15 inch speakers. I have only used this cab twice, coupled with my ampeg STV115 cabinet and my solid state ampeg B series head, kicking out nearly 500 watts at about 2.6ohms. It resulted in a full range bass sound with some serious presence and boom!
Love it.

I recently bought two of these cabs - instead of going for the classic Ampeg 8 X 10. What a revelation they have turned out to be. When you link the two in series (and adjust the horn with the simple dial on the back) you generate what can only be described as "sonic thunder".

I play bass with FOXY'S RUTS and we play a mix of reggae and punk - these babies are absolutley great for both these genres of music. When the add says that they go lower than the 8 x 10 - beleive it. Your liver will rattle with these.

One cab is enough for the average pub gig - but on a festival stage these two in series are perfect. I played an Ampeg 8 x 10 at the Melkweg last weekend and was left thinking the 410's were so much more powerful.

If you are looking for protability and don't fancy the 185 pounds odd that the 8x 10 runs in at - go for these. Mark W www.humanpunk.com
