Electro-Harmonix Little Big Muff Pi
Electro-Harmonix Little Big Muff Pi
After extensive research into what made the 1970 Big Muff such a special and legendary pedal, Electro-Harmonix came up with a new addition to its Big Muff family: The Little Big Muff. Housed in a compact, die-cast box with smooth corners, The Little Big Muff presents the classic, true-to-heritage, 1970 tone that falls somewhere between the…

I grabbed my little slice of the pie - and I don't regret it!
Chris G (May 28, 2011)Rating: 10/10
I was debating whether to go for this or the bigger brother, but ultimately the smaller real estate of the little big muff made it the winner. Do I regret not going for the Big Muff? Not one bit. I research my products well before I buy, and some say that there are differences in sound between this and the bigger version â?? sitting somewhere between the discontinued Russian made Big Muff Pi and the USA Pi. Iâ??ve not compared these side by side, but to my ear this pedal sounds great â??delivering the sound I wanted â?? what more could you ask for?
Itâ??s a simple design but itâ??s built like a brick so should stand up to some harsh stomps. Despite only having two knobs for tonal adjustments â?? Tone/Sustain â?? youâ??d be surprised what sounds you can get out of this thing.
A great purchase â?? a great price too. Canâ??t fault Dolphin Music either â?? spot on delivery.

I agree with those who say that it sounds more alan parsoned than digitally remastered, and that's what prefer...I suggest to pair it with an expression pedal to drive better the modulation thing, that is teasing too much with the farm preset. also if you connect it with a fine mixing desk, you'll almosto reach the flexibility of a tape echo. the price do the rest.

A great analogue delay sound from a tiny box.
This pedal does not provide the crystal clear repeats that a digital delay would provide, in fact the repeats seem dark even in comparison to some other analogue delays.
What it does provide (and provide extremely well) is a delay sound that sits well with the guitar sound, rather than fighting its way forward.
Dark washes of dreamlike delay are available with the modulation (when used in moderation) providing movement.
On the downside, the modulation does go to extreme depths that may not suit everyone, and to really access all the features fully an expression pedal must be added.
Perhaps this gives the excitement of 2 new pedals, one when you get the memory boy, and another when you get the expression pedal and see what wonders that unlocks. That's my plan.

Awesome!
Paul Foster (October 23, 2009)Rating: 10/10
So so dirty, but if you got any Big Muff you know that anyway. This version is even better!!! The tone wicker adds more high end tones, this is noticable and give a rounder sound, maybe sounds a bit more modern, A bit like those brightness buttons on amps and stuff. an awesome addon! There is also a tone bypass, which bypasses the tone control on the pedal, when i first got this I thought... cool, but a bit of a gimmick. But have now ended up switching it off most of the time, it alows you to use the tones of the guitar and your amp alot more, also great for recording, it allows you to get a flat tone, so EQ and stuff can be applied later. All in all a seriously awesome distortion with bells and whistles!!!

This is my first fuzz pedal and it's fantastic. It's a solid and well built unit. The 'Tone' and 'Sustain' knobs let you vary your sound from a mild growl to a full blown synthy fuzz.
One problem with some other fuzz pedals is that fuzz can cause you to lose some of the lower frequencies, so there are two modes to remedy this: 'Bass Boost' increases the volume of the lower frequencies, whereas 'Dry' is a blend with a fixed amount of original signal blended with the fuzz. If you don't need these, you can use the 'Normal' setting which works best when the tone knob is set lower. Both worked great when I tested them with my band.
As far as connecting it up to amps goes, you get a 'Dry out' output on the pedal which provides an untouched bass signal, in addition to the 'Effect out' which uses the footswitch to toggle the fuzz on/off.
I run my pedal using a 9v battery but can't comment on battery life as I have only owned the pedal for two weeks. There is a 9v jack on the pedal if you prefer to power it from a mains supply.
If you need a fuzz that sounds great for bass, keeps your low end intact and doesn't cost a fortune, I highly recommend this one.

A great piece of gear for the price. Superb analog delays that you can mix with either chorus or vibrato modulation, which range from "normal" to downright freaky! Comes with a 9v PSU but daisy chains straight onto my pedalboard; no hiss, hum or other noise. I ordered this as I have several other EH pedals (muff, small clone & Holy Stain)& was looking or a decent delay at a decent price. Can't fault Dolphin there; excellent price & very speedy delvery next day before 10:00am. This unit actually sold out within 24hrs, so do yourself a favour - get one ASAP (if you can)!

Before I start, excellent service by Dolphin, delivered promptly on Monday (ordered Friday) and packaged well. Also the cheapest retailer for this pedal (as of August 09).
The pedal! Construction wise - as you would expect from EHX, the pots are all smooth and responsive, the switches are solid and reliable, and also the casing seems as though it could take a beating. Durable!
This pedal can give a variety of sounds with the modulation and reverb settings on the some of the modes, all sound ace to my ear (although I am no audiophile). Where the consensus seems to be that it is hard to use at first, I would have to disagree - while aimlessly turning the knobs wont get you a usable sound like some other pedals, it is quite easy to tailor the sound you want, and the mode list on the front also helps with this.
One of the main reasons I bought this was for the looper, and safe to say it doesn't disappoint. While essentially no frills, unlimited overdubs and over 20 seconds recording time are just what I was looking for, and it is also very easy to use. You have to hold in the switch while recording though, which may be unusual for some people.
Overall, this pedal is brilliant, great sounding and relatively easy to use. However, I wouldn't expect too much use of it onstage though - trying to change settings in a live situation I can imagine might be a problem, although the looper would be a handy tool to have.
pedal not really for gigging, sound experimentation studio shit

Greg Hill (August 24, 2009)Rating: 10/10
The Double muff in Single mode pushes the tubes in my Laney VC15 just the right amount to create that little bit of extra gain, great for harmonics and hard rock.
In double muff mode, the pedal explodes into gain! Really brutally driven stuff, a little too much for the 10" speaker in the Laney, but when coupled with some 12"s really warms out.
Fantastic construction, fantastic price, fantastic company.
Fantastic Pedal.

OK, lets remember what this does. The EHX Micro POG (Polyphonic Octave Generator) digitally adds an octave below and an octave above your original signal. Thats it.
The thing is how well it does it. There is nothing I hate about this pedal. I could happily leave it permanently switched on at lower blend settings just to make my tone HUGE! This is great if you are in a one guitar rock/metal band.
Tracking is pretty much flawless, just go easy with that top octave as too much of this blended in with make your sound synthetic, introducing the 'Chipmunks' style fluttering associated with extreme digital real time pitch shifting.
The sub octave is pure joy...:-) Makes my Whammy 4 sound very semi-pro...
True bypass lives here and construction is top notch.
My first unit had a faulty switch but I was blown away by how Dolphin handled my return. I emailed at 7.30 in the morning, they replied at 9AM by phone and then sent out a brand new unit which I had the next day.
AWESOME service, thank you Dolphin!
Buy this unit, it's truly inspiring!

amazing sounds dont have to be complicated
daniel clark (June 6, 2009)Rating: 10/10
I recently borrowed one of these from my brother.
I was familiar with the popular nirvana sounds this thing can create so was very interested to hear what it could sound like on a bass.
I plugged it in and without even touching the Dial was easily the best chorus sound I have ever heard on a bass. after playing around with it for an hour I was in love.
Electro Harmonix Have really got it right with this pedal you really do not need a fancy pedal with 20 different knobs to play with this has just one and you can a huge range of sounds.
it can be the most subtle bass chorus or a real warble sound.
it works great with active and passive basses hardly any hiss even when going straight into the desk .
only gripe I had was on this unit the power supply was a mini jack type so didnt work with my power source. it is also the most battery hungry pedal I have ever used
but thats a minor issue to me so 10*

I have to say the Electro Harmonix small clone is by far my favorite effects pedal yet; and I own alot of pedals.
It was really useful playing Nirvana songs and just making up my own riffs.
I definitely give this effects pedal 10/10 becuse it is amazing.
And for £49.00 it is a great price, worth spending.

EHX Bass Micro Synth
Keith Greenwood (May 11, 2009)Rating: 9/10
This pedal gives a great range of anologue sounds from classic synth sounds to percussive effects to 80's bass sounds.
Mixing the Sub-octave, Guitar and Octave voicings gives you well rounded tones with the Square Wave giving you differing amounts of distortion.
The Attack Delay allows bowing effects to be used which can be used pretty well when recording but not too great for live playing.
The real hard work comes in the Filter Sweep section. It is best that you use the provided Sound Templates to get an idea of how to create the sound you are looking for (EHX were happy to e-mail settings to me when I didn't get them in the box). A slight adjustment to one of these settings has a huge effect on the sound provided. This is great in as much as it allows you a huge scope of effects but it takes some getting use to!
The pedal comes complete with its own adaptor which is great.
One thing to be wary of is the bypass button, it does not appear to be a true bypass and can bleed the tone from your normal sound.
The only other thing is that on a small practice amp the speaker can vibrate like crazy giving some unwanted noise.
All in all this is a great pedal, very adaptable and can actually be used in a live environment for a slightly different sound.
You might not be able to get all of the nuances of the classic Stevie Wonder 70's Bass Moog sound but you can get pretty close!
