Worked flawlessly (with xp).Had to use ASIO4ALL driver for it to work with no latency with Acoustica Mixcraft v4.Happy as a pig in its pit and my introduction to the world of midi is a success.Buy it.

This is a good product. I bought it to complement Logic Pro 8 and GarageBand on my new Applemac.
I attached an XLR microphone and headphones by Numark to create a home studio of the best quality according to a low budget.

Warning! One of the additional discs that came with the EMU interface blocked both Garage and Logic Pro from starting up.. This was the production tools software disc. Do not download it! I wasted 3 days finding out why Logic stopped working. Apple help-desk helped me put this right.

Overall I am happy with the EMU interface, the previous interface was not working and for my budget this did the trick quite professionally.

Bought this after upgrading to Vista 64.. my old M-Audio Midisport 2x2 has no drivers (and the development looks very slow). The EMU worked perfectly after I downloaded the latest drivers. Recommended if you are looking for an inexpensive Vista 64 midi interface.

Purchased this as a way of reducing my latency and to provide extra options for recording in the future. The box is fantastic and is so easy to set up highly recommended if you don't have a massive budget and just starting out.

I did a lot of research on the available USB audio / midi interfaces before opting for the EMU0404, and I must say that (in my opinion) it is easily the best in terms of both ease of use and sound quality - even though it is not the cheapest or have the best build quality of the available units out there

Installation:
I am running a windows based set-up with Cubasis VST, and the EMU software and hardware both installed in minutes with no problems whatsoever. Audio and midi recording & playback worked fine from directly out of the box

Sound Quality:
What can I say!? I dont profess to be an expert sound engineer but the results obtained from the EMU0404 met and exceeded my expectations. For info, I am using the unit for both recording and playback - guitar, vocal, keyboard, and synths, and cannot fault the clarity and depth of sound across the entire frequency range. And of course, latency free monitoring is an absolute must

Features & Build:
All the essential features which I need for a small & portable recording studio. As eluded to previously, the build quality isnt necessarily the sturdiest but if the unit will predominantly be studio (desk) based, then this shouldnt present a problem

Bundled Software:
I havent really used much in truth (with the exceptiob of Amplitube and Proteus Plug-Ins. Both of which have proven to be very useful applications) however there seems to be a good selection that would get a new user up and recording fairly quickly, although arguably not the most user friendly software for the novice

In summary then, a great bit of kit with some very minor faults that can easily be lived with - 9 stars

What can I say, this item does what's supposed to do. I use it to control two external analog synthesisers from my daw. No trouble running both synths simultaneously.

Very good value considering most midi interfaces with just 1 midi connection elsewhere are just a tenner less.

This is great - The installation instructions were 1st class ensuring an elegant Windows XP setup - and what an enormous amount to install, the software bundle is excellent value on it's own. Best of all it just works 1st attempt - oh for all PC add-ons to be as cool as this.

Microsoft has failed to repair it's USB to MIDI driver (my Fatar VMK-188 Plus appears as a USB-audio device and relies on Vista drivers), so the Xmidi was a primary choice.

The unit is tiny and very light but well made with neat-fitting, gold-plated contacts. The indicator lights are very useful for quick fault-finding and although light in weight, a large rubber base keeps it from moving around.

The bundled drivers only work with XP/MAC but a Vista driver is available from their website. In operation it works transparently in Sonar, LinuxSampler (in Vista) and in Tascam's CVPiano. It even comes with a good quality USB lead and a nice faux-leather wallet!

Coupled with Dolphins excellent pricing and next day delivery to Northern Ireland it''s a steal!

The E-Mu XBoard is a great instrument and the best MIDI controller in this price range.

The unit is solid enough - it has a tiny bit of flex under quite a lot of pressure, but it would definitely survive if you dropped it onto a hard floor. The keys are also very solid, responsive, and the aftertouch is a nice feature for live performance (although I turn it off for studio recording). The knobs probably feel the least secure part of the board, but still definitely sturdy enough to survive a few knocks. The MOD wheels have a nice resistance too them and are crafted from non-slip rubber. All in all, the X-Board is a pleasure to play with, and doesn't feel cheap like other controllers in this price range.

It's size makes it easy to incorporate into any recording studio - you can stick it nearly anywhere, and is light enough to be carried around to a different studio/gig with no problems.

The USB drivers that come with the X-Board install easily and I actually ended up using the controller through USB rather than MIDI, to save on cables and because it was easily fast enough. Some USB controllers at this level suffer from latency.

The ability to assign all the knobs to different controls is a great feature, but at the same time it can be hard to remember what does what due to the lack of labels. I recommend assigning the dials to the 16 controls you use most often and sticking with it.

In conclusion this is a fantastic buy and I recommend it to anyone who wants a small affordable MIDI controller. If you work alot with soft-synths in your studio then this really is great to lay down some melodies with speed and ease.

(Having spent hours reading USB interface reviews, I'm trying to be as specific as possible here, so forgive the length! I record acoustic guitar through a mic and play indie pop style stuff.)
Previously recorded with the internal mic on my MacBook and got very lo-fi recordings with low volume and background hissing.
Searched for a month through all USB interfaces and mics online. First I got a cheap ESI UGM96 from Dolphin but it really wasn't good enough with my set up - a SHURE prologue dynamic mic. Basically I couldn't get the levels up high enough to record anything. Sent it back then was veering towards getting the M-Audio Fast Track Pro, but after reading quite a few bad reviews online I opted for the E-MU 0404 which was roughly in the same price range - I'm so happy I got it.
I set it up in about 5 minutes, no problems at all. Had my first go with my new C-1 Behringer mic (£32). Recorded vocals first and they sounded loud, lovely and rich with no background noise at all. Turning up the gain past half way and I noticed the start of some background hiss but I'm sure with a little tweaking I can get rid of this. But I was just testing it and didn't need this extra gain. So far :-)
Next I tried with my acoustic guitar and WOW, crystal clear and great professional sound.
I listen to a lot of demo stuff on garageband.com and to me this already sounded as good as some of the more professional stuff on there.
So these are my first impressions. It's a solid piece of kit too and everything is fairly intuitive and easy to use. Comes bundled with loads of stuff I haven't looked at yet because I was so taken aback by the great quality!

To conclude, if you're MacBook user keen to finally get your music sounding a little more professional but haven't got loads of money, I would highly recommend the E-MU 0404 and the C-1 condenser mic.

Work in stereo want a simple interface? Buy an EMU 0202. I'm a jobbing studio installer and had a client with a need for a simple, good quality stereo interface. OK, I thought, should be able to get one for about £150. When I cam across the 0202 at £68, I thought there was a mistake. Bus powered, 24-bit and, being stereo, doesn't even tax USB speeds.

I got one for my client thinking that I'd put it in store if it was no good. I've ended up buying one for myself as well.

Good sound, low latency, no wall-wart and it's Emu. I suggest you buy one at sub-£70 before the sterling crisis pushes it up over £100.

BTW, I have it on my spare studio PC and don't travel with it. I think you might have to take a little care if you're throwing it into rucksack. Sits on top of my Mac Pro and is totally reliable. Tip top...

After being used to relatively good studio gear for the past 10 yrs or so i wasn't expecting brilliance for this price range (even though e-mu has never let me or anyone i know down).
I bought this for a new build computer and all my budget went on the essentials for a good spec pc so i thought i would buy this for the meantime but i am very pleasantly surprised, the hardware accelerated dsp effects are very handy when using a daw with lots of vst instruments (in my case cubase),the patchmix dsp software is intuitive if you are used to a mixing desk although, the drivers and software add an extra couple of mins onto my comps boot up time and i need them as im using this as my primary soundcard.
Good latency (i got mine at 8ms)and a generally good buy for an entry level card or a stop gap card, and great fast service as is usual with dolphin.

I'll keep this short and sweet. A great interface, does what it says on the tin to be honest. However there is 1 problem...
If you are installing the drivers from a cd on Mac Os X Leopard. Dont. It overwrites some vital drivers that rend Garageband and Logic Useless. I had to reinstall my whole OS. Go straight to the website and download the most recent and you will be fine.
Other than that its a great audio interface.

There are a few strange things that happen with GarageBand, which is the free program that come with Mac OSX.(leopard)
After installing the drivers for the EMU 0202 GarageBand hang on 'Initialising' which normally only takes a second or two before launching.
Re-installing didn't seem to help, but launching an old (2.0.2) version of GarageBand from a full system backup- it launched properly and afterwards my current (3.0.5) version of GarageBand launched normally too.
I guess the old copy restored wonky preferences but who knows.

The EMU 0202 has otherwise been settling in fine, and I recommend it, with a good mic and some headphones, as a decent first step into experiments with audio.
