Bought these to go with my Alesis M1 Active MK2's. I tested these stands with other things such as my CDJ400, CDJ800 and my Numark DXM09 mixer. Everything i tried with these stands sits on top very nicely despite the surface of the stands being 6inch by 6 1/2 inches. It seems the heavier the item on these stands the better as it becomes more stable. When these stands are used at minimum height with near-field monitors such as the Alesis M1 Active MK2's I find they are at perfect height to have the tweater level with your ears when sat at a desk. I would certainly recommend these stands to anybody.

It Got So Close, Yet so Far

Ollie (August 4, 2011)
Rating: 9/10

You're probably wondering why it's nine out of ten and not not something less like the other reviewers above me. well that is pure on the headphone comfort issues, otherwise a 10 would be within it's grasp. That's really the only real problem with these 'phones.

I'm a music student going on to uni in September, so I needed to get some new headphones. I also had to kiss goodbye my AKG K77's as they've pretty much died on me after a 2 year working relationship on my previous music course (both earpads/muffs came off, and the left speaker's not working anymore). The RH600's have been my replacement ones for uni, and I've had time in the last 2 weeks or so to get a good feel of them.
Sound wise, they're great. A very big satisfying sound, a big deep bass with with crunch but but sealing highs like in other headphones I've had. It may depedn on taste of course, and that goes for any headphones. You need to ask the question "what is it that I need to hear the most and what sounds take priority?". With these they very bass and mid heavy, but I like that. You really hear the thump of a kick drum and deepness of a bass more. For this reason, I reckon it might be quite good drummers, who want to be able to hear their low end more so.
They're certainly and improvement over both my AKG K77 and K99's, which never did quite have a balanced enough sound. The initial and probably only problem is the lack of comfort. The cups have been made in such a way, that the speakers sit independently inside from the padding around the edges on their own little platform. I'm not so sure what reasoning behind this, whether it's give the speaker more room to vibrate or what (if anyone knows, feel free to let me know since I'm intrigued). By doing this though, the edges of the speaker can seriously dig into the side of your ears, and I fear may even leave some discomforting marks on some people. This can hurt during long sessions of listening, let alone monitoring or recording.
If there was just slightness bit of padding inside around the speakers themselves, then maybe this wouldn't be such a problem. But the speakers are practically bare with only a bit of fabric over separating them from your ear. Your almost near exposed to it. The outer padding around seem more like for blocking sound out (which it does very well, by the way) but add little comfort to you as the ring of the speaker pushes into your ears.
But, with all this in mind, the practical types could easily remedy this by pushing in some makeshift padding to ease the ring of the speaker off your tender ears. testing with some soft fabric, it really does make difference comfort wise and shows what could have been. It's really and honestly the only major error with them. Your still getting a brilliant budget sound, that gives great clarity, unlike other ones in it's class and price range, which I've noticed to be a bit too tinny and too much high end and not enough bass for my liking.

Still, if you wish to brave the comfort issues for the sake of a great sound that doesn't leave you broke and eating bake bean tins for months, then these could be the headphones for you.

Overall, great sound but FFS put some padding inside around those speakers!

This will do the job

Colin (March 11, 2011)
Rating: 7/10

This is a substantial piece of hardware, well protected in a padded case, and comes with a heavy desktop stand and impressive shockmount.
The cakewalk software is far too complicated for me to operate, but the mike operates adequately using 'Audacity', 'Record Pad' and Windows sound recorder.
I had to disable the on-board realtek microphone on my laptop before it would record anything from this USB-connected mike.
If all you want to do is record directly to a computer, this will do the job, but, of course, you can't connect it to anything else!

I am very impressed with both the sound quality and features on these active speakers. We use a pair of them in our Village Hall both as stage monitors for drama and at other times as a pair of centre speakers as part of our community cinema surround sound system (in conjunction with Samson RS15 and RS10 speakers also excellent).

Highly recommended (although they have gone up in price significantly since we bought ours in 2009).

Great Deal

Rating: 7/10

First of all don't expect this to be the best...Im very happy with my purchase, and is the best mic I've bought so far. I have bought Neuman, Se, and many others, but for the price of this one I say it beats most. The mixer on it makes it a lot easier to work with.

I thought like the others, it wouldn't be as easy to install, but my computer found it straight away and installed in a matter of minutes. It comes with a music program demo. It has good quality but depending on how much sound you want it to capture it depends on the noise youll get. 0 latency for Mixcraft 5. You can plug your headphones and instruments directly into the mic which i think is great, and easy to use...

Im very happy

PS: Just so you know the Shock Mount is not included!

Great Sound, Poor Comfort

DB (January 4, 2010)
Rating: 7/10

The title says it all really. I use this on a regular basis and I can't fault them for sound quality, you can pick out things that normal speakers just don't hear. They also contain sound pretty well, not totally like they claim but better than most, when recording.

The biggest issue is they're not comfortable on the ear. The gap between the foam and the hard central part (where the sound comes from) tends to pull your ear into it and will really hurt if you're on a long recording session. Also I find they don't tend to be too secure on your head either, they'll creak away and slip around, particularly if like many rap artists, you only use one earphone and hold it to your head.

A most flexible product, and cheaper than many passive DI boxes.

Nice for the price

David (November 16, 2009)
Rating: 8/10

Good value for the price - sturdy metal construction and nicely weighted. Adhesive padding for the speakers was a nice touch.

Only complaint is that the vice-grips are awkward to get really tight (for heavier speakers) and at full extension, the stands are not perfectly straight. Other than that, brilliant.

Great mic

Simon (August 16, 2009)
Rating: 9/10

I bought this so i didn't have to use my PC mic for recording vocals anymore. It's a great mic. Alot of people complain about the levels, hoever, if you set it up correctly, the levels are fine. If you install the softpre application, you can easily adjust it. I had some problem with it being recognised by ASIO4ALL but that was a fault on my end. I'd accidentally changed the drivers. I would recommend this microphone for someone looking to record vocals and instruments on a budget!

It seems a bit of a cop out to repeat what's said in the previous review, but the big thing about these mics is that they are really excellent value for money. I'd seen a good review of them when I was looking for several pairs of mics to help mic up a large wind ensemble for outdoor gigs, so I had to find something good but not expensive. If I hadn't bought these, I'd have got the Rode NT5s, which at the time were at least double the price. I figured it was worth buying a pair to see how they went. I'm glad I did - I went on to get 6 pairs altogether, which with my existing lockerful of dynamic mics and a few better condenser mics, means I can mic up pretty well anything now and usually have a choice of what I use.

While I'd normally use something else for pure stereo recording, these will do the job, and if you're on a strict budget, a pair or two will get you out of many holes. Drum overheads, choir recording, in fact most instruments work well with them.

The only niggle I have is that while the capsules unscrew, there aren't any omni or hypercardioid capsules to replace them with. Having shockmounts (a bit primitive), foam windshields and a durable case does compensate, though.

Having a small home studio and a pretty tight budget, i reckoned nearly £70 for a condenser mic was a great deal, and after reading several reviews, i decided to buy one.

It is quite heavy and sturdy, it definitely looks and feels the part.

Set up is easy. Literally just plug it in and you can use it.

However, i have the same complaints as most people here. I find that the volume is still quite low even when the gain is turned up. Windows Vista users are told not to use the software you can download from the Samson website with gain features etc. so i don't really know how to overcome this.

I use Reason 4.0, so i can't directly record audio in this, but using audacity is acceptable, although i think latency is an issue, my recordings end up out of time by the 2nd verse.. :

The idea is great. If you are not wanting to spend on average £200 for an audio interface, this is definitely a must buy, especially if you aren't so much of a professional serious user. However, i seem to think a 'proper' condenser mic (XLR) would give lower noise and higher overall sound.

Samson C01U is the best USB Mic, period.

Robert Hughes (January 11, 2009)
Rating: 9/10

I purchased this microphone a couple of years back for recording rap music to. I must say I was blown away with the clarity of my voice. The vocals were crisp and sounded very proffesional, people used to ask me what studio I went to, but I just replied "I dont, I do it all from my room for £50", they were amazed.
I then told several friends about the microphone and dolphin music and they all bought 1, (about 5 in total), I found that some of them couldnt install them, thus making the microphone VERY QUIET! But once they installed the Samson Softpre-amp, and the drivers it was working amazing!
YOU CANNOT GET A BETTER USB MICROPHONE, period. I have looked.
Sound quality - 9/10
Ease of use - 7/10
Build quality - 10/10!
Brilliant!

I bought this mixer to be able to mix my own guitarsignals when rehearsing. I use two guitars(both electric) and a keyboard, so this was very handy. I also connect a recoring unit to the rca out, and I have to say, the quality of audio is very high. There is no backgroundnoise, and the sounds are very clean. There is only one problem: there is no on/off switch. You have to unplug the powersupply to power of the device.

I am sure that I can't do without this mixer when rehearsing. The ability to control the volumes of every all instruments I play without having to change the volume of the amplifer every time, is very nice.

samson mic - low level

Charles (December 15, 2008)
Rating: 8/10

I have just bought this mic, at first I agreed with the reviewers that said the level was too low etc. and the mic was a load or ****. Then I changed the format (Advanced Microphone properties) to 1 channel 16 bit (instead of 2 channel 16 bit), now I agree with the reviewers who say it is wonderful.
Great mic - lousy instructions.
