Focusrite Octopre MkII Dynamic Reviews
OK....where shall we start???
I know... If you have a good interface but all of the sudden you realise that your needs are increasing, and if your interface offers you ADAT I/O, then you will need to look into these beauties.
The Focusrite Octopre has been around for a while, but the two new MK II versions are brilliant. As always you have the Focusrite quality in the mic pres, which are extremely low noise, plenty of headroom, and very very neutral, so no unwanted colouration on your tracks.
The Octopre MK II as the name implies, offers 8 additional mic pres via ADAT, an additional 8 outputs as well and you also have Worldclock for perfect sync'ing with your interface.
In the case of the one reviewed here, the MK II Dynamic, it offers you built in compression per mic pre, via a single dial which enables you to have the right amount of compression, fast. These new VCA-based, feed-forward compressors model the character of the celebrated Focusrite Red 3.
Excellent analogue to digital conversion and vice versa, with the outputs boasting a real dynamic range performance of 110dB.
The LED display is handy and very easy to read. Phantom Power available in every channel ins groups of 4, i.e 1-4 and 5-8. Phantom Power and Clip indicators per channel.
If you are tracking drums, this is the Octopre to go for.
