Discontinued - now replaced by the Tascam DP006.
Tascam Portastudio's digital sibling has arrived and it's just as easy to use as the original analogue cassette version.
The Tascam DP-004 is an easy to use portable 4-track recorder with a layout much like Tascam's industry-changing cassette recorders. Being digital, the Tascam DP-004 has modern features: USB 2.0, it's smaller than a paperback, and features built-in a stereo condenser microphone, so you can take the Tascam DP-004 Pocketstudio anywhere. If you want to connect other instruments or microphones, the DP-004 has two 1/4-inch inputs which accept microphone or line-level signals.
The first input can also switch to Hi-Z so it's suitable for recording your bass or electric guitar directly.
Audio is saved to an 1 GB SD card at 16-bit/44.1kHz CD quality. Other features include a track bounce function, flexible editing, a built-in tuner, and a metronome on the Tascam DP-004 pocketstudio.
The Tascam DP-004 Digital Pocketstudio follows the Portastudio cassette 4-track tradition with a user-friendly layout. Assign an input to any of the four tracks just by pressing two buttons. Hit the record button once to arm the tracks for recording and a second touch starts the recording. Ajust all the audio levels by using the input knobs and viewing the meters on the DP-004's LCD screen. Audio records as a CD-quality 16-bit/44.1kHz WAV file on an included 1GB SD card. SD Card media is great because it's removable, expandable, and affordable. You can drop in another SD card, just like you'd put in a new tape to start another recording. And for longer recording sessions, you can put in a higher-capacity SD card.
After you've mixed four tracks together you can bounce them over to a new track and make room for more overdub layers, the Tascam DP-004 pocketstudio is only limited by the amount of layers you can dream up. The Tascam DP-004 Digital Pocketstudio also features flexible editing tools, so you can clean up mistakes or silence noises in a track. If you happen to record over something by mistake, an Undo button wil correct the mistake. Other professional features include an Autopunch and Repeat mode for the recorder. There's even a built-in guitar tuner and a metronome, making the Tascam DP-004 pocketstudio an incredibly convenient tool.
Once you've recorded your tracks, it's easy to get them to your Mac or PC to load to a webpage, e-mail, load into your portable media player, or burn to a CD. The Tascam DP-004 pocketstudio connects to your computer via fast USB 2.0.
Don't be tied down to only record in one place, go anywhere and still get great sound with the Tascam DP-004 Digital Pocketstudio.
