Korg PadKONTROL
I bought this a couple of months ago, and since then have tested it out with a number of pieces of software such as Reason, Logic, Reaktor and Sooperlooper to name a few of them. The PadKontrol has worked well in all the pieces of software I used it with, except for Logic but this has more to do with the complicated nature of assigning midi controls in Logic itself, for that I would recommend getting the nanoKontrol (Logic templates on the Korg website) I use the PadKontrol mostly to trigger samples and it performs very well in that respect. The pads have a good feel about them and are very responsive. It sits very secure on the table I have it on at home and worked straight out of the box: I\\\'m using it with a mac so no need to install any drivers. The LED screen is a bit cryptic to say the least, but the bundled software editor more than compensates for this: changes to the pads and such are easily applied. I\\\'ve used it to a lesser extent to play in drum sequences (not much of a finger drummer!), and again the PadKontrol works well. The flam and roll functions are a nice touch but due to my lack of skill in playing in drum patterns I haven\\\'t utilised them fully, however there are plenty of videos online which can illustrate their use.
I would have liked access to a few more rotary knobs, but this is only a minor point. All in all I\\\'ve found the PadKontrol to be a very reliable and responsive controller and well worth the purchase price
Comparison of -Audio Trigger Finger, Korg padKontrol and the Akai MPD 24.
If you’re looking for a MIDI pad controller on a modest budget and can’t be troubled to build your own then no doubt you will have found these three; M-Audio Trigger Finger, Korg padKontrol and the Akai MPD 24.
They are all around a similar budget and each has their own appeal but on paper its a tough call. If you wanna know more about the comparitive features of the above then visit the link

After the setup, amazing
I got the padKONTROL from dolphin music about a week ago, after much debate on wether I should buy one. I finally caved in.
First impressions were excellent, out of the box it looks and feels great. The pads can be really sensitive if you want them to be, and they feel good to tap.
The main drawback, albeit minor was the bumoy setup. All of the bundled software installed pretty smoothly, but as I regretably run windows, the driver was a bit of a pain. When you install the driver from the CD, you don\'t actually install the driver, it installs a program that intalls the driver. This took me a while to work out why the padKONTROL didn\'t seem to work.
Something important to note is that if you want to use the padKONTROL to send MIDI messagees to trigger samples and such in ableton, then you must go into MIDI preferences select padKONTROL port A and B and turn remote on. It took me a few painful hours to work out.
Also, the editor/librarian needs to have the MIDI in and out set correctly to transmit scenes, it would be easier to have this automatically happen.
Despite these first few teething problems, once everything is set up correctly, it is for me now an essential bit of equipment. Being able to control ableton from the padKONTROL is very useful and has expanded my creativity. I\'ve found that the x-y pad works particularly well as a filter controller as the feel is very intuitive. As well as this, editing scenes is very easy, both on the software and on the padKONTROL itself.
It really has expanded my creativity, I love the way you can drum a beat and trigger samples on the same scene.
If your like me and already have the full version of ableton installed then this is a very useful tool, however, the bundled ableton live lite 6 software is a bit bit lighter then I expected, more of a demo really.
Overall this has been a great purchase that I do not regret, looking forward to using this in some up and coming gigs with my band, it\'s enabled us to be able to sample in a quick and simple manner.
