Xenyx 1832FX

I am a student in college studying music techloglogy and recently baught the Behringer Xenyx to help with my college work, of the stuff i have recorded so far i have had a really good quality sound, im really pleased and feel i have deffinatly had my moneys worth.

the down sides of the Xenyx 1832FX is firstly the USB interface was useless for me, i ran this desk with cubase SX3 and found that connecting them was difficult and after looking on the internet, fount i was not the only person to come accross this, once i got it connected could only get my ASIO lantecy down to 9ms, but as soon as i stoped using it and connected straight to my soundcard got it straight down to 5ms.
the other downside is the lack of flexable routing, as there are only 4 tracks,(2 subs and 2 main) so for recording instuments that need alot of mic some channels have to be compramised to one track.

over all this is a really good product for beginers like myself and would recomend it alsong as it isnot used with the USB interface

Great unit - unique within the range

Recently upgraded from the XENYX 1202 to the 1832FX; I needed more channels, capacity and, crucially, routing flexibility.

This unit provided me with everything I needed - 6 mono channels and 4 stereos, perfect for my mixture of vocals, guitar line in and keyboards. It's the only one in the range with a 'Monitor Send' function, and it's the only one with the 9-band equalizer. This means that you can give an overall character to the mix, rather than relying on settings on the individual channels. This also features feedback protection – particularly useful if you’re using the Mon channel for stage wedges. The unit also features a form of surround sound, which is basically useless as it sounds terrible!

I was surprised with the quality of the FX - it was a part of the unit I wasn't really bothered about as I have outboard FX units, which are ably served by the Aux buses. Upon use, however, I found the onboard FX to be of very high quality, and because it's wired straight into the unit you can test ideas quickly. This is the full extent of the usefulness, of course, because of the limited control you have over the effect.

The documentation is great, as can be expected from a Behringer unit. I tend to not bother with instruction manuals and the like, but I’m more inexperienced with this sort of technology and need to learn somehow. A well-written piece of documentation is a real bonus!

Another great feature of the unit is the included USB/Audio interface box. The installation is comprised of two steps – plug in and use. Much easier and quicker than going via the soundcard, and while I wouldn’t find myself often using this box on the CD/Tape I/O with my particular setup, it’s useful to route the channel from which you are recording to your software.

Overall, this is a great unit, easy to use and very reasonably priced. It stands out slightly from the rest of the top end of the range, because of its unique features. For me, it was a toss-up between the 1622FX and the 1832FX – I chose the latter because of the extra features, meaning this is a more standalone unit. In a larger setup, you would choose a higher-spec model, and have separate hardware for some of the functionality you lose. For my situation, where I need a good live mix and a tool for recording, this was the perfect choice.
