Mackie D.2 Review *also*
Forgot to mention one last thing (picky I know) but it\\\\\\\'s an odd size. For some reason Mackie decided that even though every other mixer in the world is as tall as a set of turntables, the D.2 will be taller I\\\\\\\'d say approx 2-3cm higher than my Vestax PDX-2000\\\\\\\'s... a problem, well It felt odd to me..lol
Mackie D.2 Review
Ok, let me say that on first impressions I thought this mixer was excellent, in fact on first use and continued use it never failed to impress. Being a scratch DJ, I bought mine based on the new \"infinium\" crossfader and sure enough it was amazing to use. Not only could you adjust the tension of the fader but also the cut in time (though it doesnt mention it in the manual).
However after around 6 months of bedroom use, and being looked after, in fact not even abused that much considering I scratch a lot, it started to die! First was the headphone cue, now this one may be a one off issue as I never used headphones until one day I decided to use them and the cue was broken (It worked when I got it). It basically deafened you on one channel even if turned to a minimum. I checked my setup, checked the connections which meant a long strip down, cleaned the heaphone fader, still it was broke.
I then got in touch with Mackie, though this too was a long process and I cant say I found them helpful at all considering I was very polite. After coming up with no real solutions except forking out more cash, I decided to leave it as I didnt use headphones that much and the crossfader was great.... or so I thought... less than one month later the crossfader jammed rendering it useless. Again I had to pull the thing apart and turned out it was a tiny magnet that adjusts the crossfader tension had come loose. Again I fixed it with glue and hoped for the best.
Literally a week later and the crossfader is now bleeding like mad from both sides which is odd as I\'ve hardly scratched the opposite way...so much for the everlasting infinium fader!
One more annoyance that flawed an otherwise well performing (for a while) mixer is that the curve control on the input faders is garbage. You cant get them to a sharp cut and this will annoy any decent scratch DJ.
So to sum up (lol) I give it 3 stars as it could have been an amazing mixer, maybe I got a dud? I dont know but at this price buyer beware! The mackie forum has a fair few posts on D.2 problems and theres even a youtube video. I have since gone back to my trust Vestax 06 pro that despite being battered has never stopped working or needed fixing in over 7 years! Go figure.

If you want to remind yourself how effective simple cutting can be.. buy a Mackie D2.
The accuracy of up the faders coupled with a the reverse switch is sweet. Simply sweet. I have spent quite a few hours on this alone.
The transform switch is also great fun. With off being in the middle and down positions, its quick and easy to replicate a 'euro scratch' which is to scratching what the speed of light is to, well, the speed of light. Fantastically fast.
The rotary eqs kill to infinity, and make a lovely sound on their way out. Quality oozes from them. And they light blue which is a very handy thing in a darkened room.
The crossfader is as lovely as an orchard. Just play with it, adjust its tension to your taste, and cut it up. It will improve your cuts.
Its build to standard 10 inch size, it will slot right on in where your old mixer was. Say bye bye to the old mixer. It’s gone. The Mackie is here to stay.
And I haven’t even got to the firewire card aspect of this mixer. And I don’t need to, its such a good mixer the elements I just described should sell it to you.
The rest is a bonus, an absolute bonus. No complaints with this mixer whatsoever.
10/10
