why oh why ?
i realise that there must be a massive market somewhere in the world for these "replica"guitars-i suspect russia and japan myself,so the discerning businessman who has now made it in the financial world can relive his younger days by hanging one of these museum pieces on his wall and showing it off to any visiting colleague.
but this really takes the top award.you get an exact copy of the "current" condition of aces 76 les paul-whatever that means-looking at the magnified photo i take it it means a chip on the top left shoulder and loads of pepper marks to the bottom end.nice details gibson-you take a beautiful guitar and purposely chip and damage it !
then you apply 3 dimarzio pups again just like aces, and of course you reflect this in the price !
but to reflect aces amazing solos virtuosity(!?!?!)you then take the 3 way toggle and destroy it- so you have a potentially amazing 3 way tone set up via a combination of those 3 lovely pups-but so it matchs aces set up you completely ruin the switch so that only the one pup at the bridge works !
now call me thick here but why !if this is purely for the solo reason to copy the frehley budokan model then gibson you have seriously lost the plot.
personally i would rather have the guitar in perfect condition and then have my own option to damage and ruin the body work and the 3 way switch thank you very much.
this is one of the contradictatory issues coming out of gibson these days.but finally i seem to see some reversion back to reality with the release of the superb 50s and 60,s tribute les pauls, albeit not true replicas as such but to own a decent les paul complete with P90,s for a nice different change in sound apart from the fender single coils and the somewhat muffled humbuckers of the usual les paul,we now see some semblance of a return to commonsense at long last-sorry not a review as such more of a rant both for and against the oddity that is the gibson guitar company.can,t live without 'em though !
