Durably constructed, with 8 compatible frequencies and included carrying case, PGX Performance Gear is the perfect system for performers on the go who want worry-free performance, every time.

Featuring Auto Frequency Selection and Auto Sync functionality, PGX makes wireless setup hassle-free and virtually effortless. In two simple steps, the system scans the local wireless landscape instantly identifying a clear channel and then, with the touch of a button, automatically syncs the transmitter with the receiver frequency via an infrared link.

PGX Wireless Systems also feature Shure's patented Audio Reference Companding, until now only available in Shure's SLX and ULX wireless systems. This leading edge technology uses a variable companding scheme to eliminate artefacts normally associated with traditional wireless companding resulting in increased dynamic range and reduced noise. Combined with a wide range of legendary Shure vocal and instrument microphones, PGX delivers superior sound for multiple user applications.

The compact, rugged PGX wireless receivers utilise microprocessor-controlled Predictive Diversity to improve reception and minimise dropouts. In addition, receivers feature attached ¼-wave antennas, 6.3 mm (¼ inch) and XLR audio outputs, frequency and power lockouts and an in-line power supply. Two seven-segment LEDs display the active channel; two separate LEDs indicate audio level and RF reception.

PGX handheld transmitters sport a multi-colour LED indicating power, lockout, mute and low battery, 100 m (300 ft.) of operating range and two AA batteries for more than eight hours of continuous use.

PGX Wireless Systems also come equipped with a rugged carrying case.

Shure PGX24/Beta58 PGX Wireless Review

A fantastic deal

As a vocalist in a pretty heavy rock band, who constantly moves around the stage (and usually ending up amongst the audience) I found pretty quickly that cables are just great things to cause mayhem and mischief. So I decided to get a wireless, and boy, am I glad I chose this system. First off, the quality of the mic is astounding. It's perfectly weighted and balanced, so it's comfortable and quickly feels like an extension to you. Although the mic body is plastic, it's pretty hefty, and you can feel the quality.

The sound is great - using the Beta58 capsule, it's a slightly biased sound which works great on most voices. It's louder and slightly more treble than the stock 58 - which makes the voice really pierce through the other instruments, yet still retains all your character. Of course, it comes down to taste, but I can't see many voices sounding bad with this. It's also great at rejecting feedback - very useful for practising in tiny rehearsal rooms.

The Wireless transmitter and reciever works really well. You have several channels to choose from, so realistically you probably won't have to worry about interference. Battery life on the mic is extraordinarily long - much longer than the documentation makes out! It's also very quick and simple to change (especially as it uses AAs) so as long as you put a fresh pair before a major performance, you'll be fine. The range is very long, and the unit easily goes through walls and other obstacles.

Overall a great system, and I would definitely recommend this as a way to get into wireless microphones. You can get cheaper entry wireless systems, but from experience, they just give you a sour taste. This looks, sounds and feels like a professional system, and is definitely worth the money. Plus, you get a quite sturdy hard case, which you can easily lock and secure - a feature that is doubly useful when playing in 90% of venues. Two thumbs up, way up!
