The Samson Rubicon Active Ribbon Studio Monitors feature 2-inch Velocity Ribbon high frequency transducers that compliment a 2-way active system capable of reproducing playback in its most natural form. Ribbon drivers have no resonant color and even dispersion, unlike a tradition diaphragm tweeter. The ribbon driver itself has no added sound characteristics, they are completely neutral. Ribbon technology gives you clean accurate and precise listening, which is why these monitors sound so natural and lifelike, just like a studio monitor should.

Good sounding home monitors

Hi

Bought these a couple of months back. And after doing som recording an mixin Im more than satisfied. Really flat sound that seems really true. Listening to my finished mixes in all sorts of sound gear from car stereo to cheapish PC speakers and high end Dali speakers the mix stays really
well balanced.....Good price to...recomended

Rubicon R5a

These monitors feature super-fast ribbon tweeters which really convey a great deal of information for the price. They warm up quickly and run very nicely for long periods of time in the studio. At normal levels they respond well, but really start to sing when the volume is cranked up a bit.

I would like to say something very positive about the build quality of these monitors, because from outward appearances they seem very rugged. However, after a couple of weeks of playing them at normal levels a solder joint inside one of the amps came unstuck. A Rubicon-approved repairer was happy to deal with this fault and repaired it under the warranty, although their competence took a little to be desired - the backplate on the amp was put back into the box upside down! Not a disaster by any means, but a strangely simple mistake to make.

I would point out that for those intending on making dance music these monitors would be best complemented by a sub (Rubicon sells one, the R10s, for around £250), since their cut-off is pretty high for dealing with mixing low bass frequencies.

Good Choice!

I switched from the 20/20bas to the R5a and i am really surprised and satisfied with them. My Room is quite small so the pair fits perfect in Size and Power. Do i miss something from the EVENTs? Yes ... the StereoImaging is not that good with the Rubicons. The Sound is very richfull for its size and the BassRegion translate real fat for a 5". There is enough Kick and a nice bottom to work with todays Electronic Music. It's a pleasure to work with them. Mind the size of your room and budget, they fit perfect AND sound really really cool!
