DM-3200 Rating
First of all, this thing looks amazing sitting in the control room! Not to compact, but not to large. The unit is built well and is pleasing on the eyes. I am really pleased with how the rear inputs are setup. Easy to access and keeps the wire clutter out of site. There are so many routing options on this console, I love it. At first, they can be a little difficult to understand, but once you have the process learned it's fairly easy to route and reroute. I would rate the preamps at about a 8. Probably a little better and cleaner when compared to other boards in this price range. There is a tiny hint of digital harshness, but can be EQ'd out fairly easily The Compressor, EQ, and Limiter are also very functional and the presets are pretty usable. The effects processors are decent. Mainly the reverbs, but a few of the Tascam effects aren't too bad. I have heard several people saying the DM-3200 is tricky to navigate, but after spending some time behind the faders it becomes second nature. I am using the IF/FW Card for transfering audio between the console and computer, which is kind of a pain to get running, so I would recommend using the MOTU MK3, giving you the 24 channels through TDIF and 8 more analog channels. That would be recording heaven! Overall the console was an excellent addition to my studio. I love the way it looks, I love the way it sounds, and I love the way it feels. I just wish Tascam would make the manuals a little more informative!
