The DM-1S was developed by Trevor Coley, Sontronics' founder and lead designer. The goal? To accuarately capture the tone and timbre of the snare at all levels; the skin slap, snare rattle, the attack, boom, decay etc bearing in mind these characteristics, the DM-1S was frequency tuned to pick up all the desirable frequencies rather than using a 'one-for-all mic' across the entire kit.
The mic itself features a -15dB pad switch that effectively allows the mic to handle up to 135dB. A fact attested to by rigourous play testing by producers and musicians at the highest level.
