Drawing on years of experience in designing industry-standard studio speakers, Yamaha announces the newest addition to their line of professional near-field monitors, the MSP5.

These monitors feature a bi-amplified design which provides 40 watts of power to each speaker's 5-inch woofer while separate amplifiers feed 27 watts to each of the system's 1-inch titanium tweeters.

The resulting sound features an impressively flat frequency response and a well-articulated stereo image. This make the MSP5s perfect for professional recording and other tasks where the accuracy of the monitoring system is of primary concern.

Designed for use in today's digital studios, each MSP5 features magnetic shielding to prevent interference with computer monitors and other sensitive pieces of equipment.

To add to their flexibility, Yamaha has placed both +4dB XLR connectors and -10dB line level phono jacks on each speaker for signal input. This allows these monitors to be easily and optimally installed in a wide range of recording environments.

Ultra-Compact, Quick and Easy Hookup

Ultra-compact enclosures allow easy placement. Small face print makes them very accurate for "point source" listening. Hookup is quick and easy with both XLR and 1/4" phone jacks available. 67 combined watts of audio power in a biamplified monitor this size, let alone near this price, was previously unheard of — until now. Upgrading to studio level monitoring has never been easier.

Custom Designed 5" Woofer and 1" Titanium Tweeter

Titanium offers excellent response, separation and durability. The MSP5A's dome tweeter, surrounded by a wave guide horn offers a broad coverage area of 120 degrees.

Built-In Biamplification

With two separate amplifiers powering the woofer and tweeter, incredibly lower distortion is realized. A total of 67 watts, 40 to the woofer and 27 to the tweeter, generates a much larger sound field than would normally be expected from a system of this size.

Great for Mastering

Flat frequency response out to 40kHz makes the MSP5A great for mastering, where high sample and bit rates are the norm.

Waveguide Technology

The smooth circular horn surrounding the tweeter delivers uniform dispersion without distortion or coloration.

Magnetic Shielding, Compact Enclosures

Complete magnetic shielding and compact size permits easy placement near all types of audio, video and computer equipment.

Versatile Equalization Control

The MSP5A's 4 position EQ switch for low frequency and 3 position switch for high frequency match the system's response to the acoustic environment.

I bought these speakers as a second pair to my trusted Yamaha NS10-Ms. Since then, I found that I switch over to them far more often, because they provide faster, crisper access to clicks and glitches during editing. For the final mix I\'ll still set them up against my old pair in order to get a comparison. I\'ve found their sound very clear while remaining agreeable through long edits. I did buy a sub to go with them at some point, but I often also only bring it in later when most of the work is done with them.
I can highly recommend the MSP5A\'s, and, at this price the decision for Yamaha\'s undoubted rock-solid quality in studio speakers is a no-brainer anyway.

Well what can I say, I originaly wanted to use these speakers with my yamaha Tyros 2 and found that they picked up every nuance and sound, infact I can now hear sounds from my musical equipment that I have never even heard before.

I have now plugged the MSP 5'S in to my mixer so I can use all of my keyboards through these yamaha speakers.

I would rate these the best value for money monitors on the market in the £25o price bracket.

Although you have to watch the power output as with any small monitor speaker, the sound is astonishing for the money.

Just watch the volume!

I would completely recommend these speakers and rate them 10 out of 10. If you want the same sound quality but more power then get the MSP10's which cost a lot more but have more power though.

I even use these speakers for mastering as active near fields.
