Record, mix and add effects all in one place.

This compact mixer with built-in effects doubles as a computer recording interface so you can mix, record, or do both at the same time. Whether you are mixing a band or sub-mixing a group of inputs, such as a drumset, the MultiMix 8 USB FX is easy to use, rugged, and packed with features. Offering microphone inputs with phantom power, guitar-direct inputs, and line-level inputs for connecting everything else, plus a wide range of effects, the MultiMix 8 USB FX delivers clean audio to your PA or recording system plus hassle-free computer connection.

MultiMix 8 USB FX features four XLR inputs with independent gain pots on channels one through four. These XLR inputs also have a switchable phantom power option to accommodate both dynamic and condenser microphones. TRS Line inputs are also available on all eight channels of MultiMix 8 USB FX. New to the MultiMix 8 USB FX is a high-impedance input on channel two, which allows direct connection of a guitar or bass; this is a great convenience for singer/songwriters looking to get a clean, "hot" signal. A Tape RCA stereo input is also included adding the ability to mix in audio from other sources such as a CD or LP player.

MultiMix 8 USB FX includes an internal effects processor to quickly and easily add new colors to your mix. Reverb, Delay or Phaser can be dialed up simply by adjusting the pre or post fader knobs located within each channel strip. MultiMix 8 USB FX also contains Aux Out and stereo Returns, as well as, Insert jacks on channels one and two to allow for audio to be processed by external effects engines. MultiMix 8 USB FX gives you an impressive amount of routing options in such a compact size.

Like the other mixers in Alesis’ MultiMix USB series, including the MultiMix 4 USB and MultiMix 6 USB, the MultiMix 8 USB FX contains a complete USB recording interface. Musicians and engineers can plug the MultiMix 8 USB FX’s class-compliant USB connection into their Mac or PC without installing any software drivers and enjoy a digital-direct stereo connection with virtually any audio software application. The MultiMix 8 USB FX enables bidirectional stereo signal, so musicians can record the stereo Main output into their computer and listen back using the mixer as an interface from software to headphones and monitoring loudspeakers.

A number of key design improvements are included on the MultiMix 8 USB FX. Enlarged knob-to-knob spacing improves ergonomics and in-use efficiency. The newly designed mixer introduces a sleek new appearance for the MultiMix series and incorporates new, removable end caps, which can be helpful for squeezing the MultiMix 8 USB FX into smaller spaces in tightly packed setups. In addition to its improved signal-to-noise ratio specifications, the new mixer consumes 36% less power than its predecessor for reliability and energy efficiency.

    Alesis multimix 8

    — Jon December 30, 2008

Good little mixer for the newcomer. Great range in the controls. Mic preamps are a little wimpy, but for the price paid not bad. Only thing i will say is that this is NOT fully compatable with vista. I am using 32bit and it crashed the computer all the time, i therefore had to return it. But if your running XP or other i would recommend fully, running vista, forget it.

Alesis MultiMix 8 USB - Perfect for the job

    — John Brown June 9, 2008

The Alesis Multimix 8 USB provides the perfect aggregation platform for small-medium scale recording or podcasting.
My setup includes an iMac as the recording platform and target system, 2 x mic inputs for voice work, a PC input into the mixer for VoIP-based telephony interaction and cart-wall functionality and an XBox360 - just for fun!
Garageband on the iMac lets me record for final output and the mix controls and effects delivered by the Multimix provide me with the levels of control I need for all of the individual inputs.
If you are looking for a simple mixing platform with good levels of control and output quality, you simply can't go wrong with the Alesis MultiMix 8 USB.

    Alesis MultiMix 8 USB

    — Alan Baker September 4, 2007

The MultiMix 8 is an 8-channel analog mixer from a well-known and well-trusted brand - Alesis.

This is the USB version of the mixer, as opposed to the FireWire version, which has a higher rate of data transfer, but is more expensive. This USB mixer is therefore more appropriate for entry-level musicians and recording artists, as it will 'Plug and Play' in most computers.

The sound quality is excellent, although a notorious problem with this design is an occasional high-pitched electronic 'buzz' when using the USB connection. However, this only happens on some computers, and only affects the sound as monitored in the 'control room' section of the mixer (so the buzz does not affect the final recorded sound).

Feature-wise, this is a great mixer, as it is well-equipped with good quality EQs, 4 high-gain mic/line inputs with phantom power, 2 stereo balanced 1/4” line inputs, and an array of good quality on-board effects, which makes it ideal as a portable mixing solution.

The mixer has solid build quality, and comes with a free copy of Steinberg's Cubase LE - perfect for a new musician or podcaster who wants to get recording straight away.

    Excellent small mixer

    — Mikkel Holm Olsen June 27, 2007

A nice little mixer for the home studio.

The first four channels are used for mono input, either from an XLR microphone or a 1/4" mono jack, and each channel has an individual gain setting, allowing the signal to be boosted. The other channels act as two stereo channels (inputs are 2x 1/4" mono jacks for each). Unfortunately no gain is available on these, so they should be line-level.

The USB-function allows the Alesis MultiMix 8 USB to be used as a CD-quality USB sound-card, both for input and output. Works fine with Windows, untested on Linux.

100 different effects can be applied to the signal, although the description of the different effects is somewhat vague.

Other than that a very nice mixer at a very reasonable price.

Dolphin Music brings you the best music gear at the best price. We are committed to superior customer service and have extensive product knowledge. However, in today’s market we may not always be aware of all the price fluctuations of the products we sell. So, we offer competitive price matching.

Please fill in the following form to request a price match.
