The AW16G digital audio workstation - a high-performance 16-track hard disk recorder that’s portable, affordable and easy-to-use. Boasting many features of Yamaha’s flagship AW4416 Professional Audio Workstation, including 2 pro-quality multi-effects processors, the AW16G offers musicians of all backgrounds a complete music production solution - all the way to CD. It also provides unprecedented functions in its price range, such as the amazing ability to record up to 8 tracks simultaneously, a built-in loop sampler, 4-band parametric EQ and dynamics on all channels, 36 channel mixing capabilities and a Sound Clip function that lets you quickly capture musical ideas while practicing.
Easy Operation - Channel Routing Made Easy
A large LCD and intuitive user interface makes it a snap to setup and use the AW16G. Routing input sources to the tracks you want to record to is as easy as pressing the respective Input and Track buttons located below the channel inputs and above the track faders. A graphic display of the connections you make will appear on the LCD screen.
Instant Inspiration - Quick Loop Sampler and Bundled Sampling CD
A built-in stereo loop sampler allows you to easily add drum patterns and sound effects to your recordings. Audio phrases can be recorded directly into the AW16G’s sample memory, copied from recorded tracks, or imported from a CD and .WAV CD-ROM. Included with the AW16G is a sample library containing over 250 MB of professionally produced stereo drum kits, loops and other samples. All the loop files from the CD are pre-installed on the AW16G’s hard disk drive, so you can get started making music the moment you take it out of the box.
Intuitive Channel Knobs
Speeding up the creative process even further, Selected Channel Knobs located to the right of the AW16G’s LCD screen provide direct access to the EQ, Dynamics and Effects 1 & 2 settings for the currently selected channel. Each knob also functions as a push-button switch, allowing you to access and edit all the parameters in a given section with a single knob.
A-to-Z Production - Powerful 16-track Digital Audio Workstation with 8 Channel Inputs and Pro-Quality Effects
The AW16G can play back up to 16 tracks of recorded audio simultaneously - more than any digital multitrack recorder in its price range - giving you more power to create full song arrangements with several layers of overdubbed vocals and instruments. Capable of recording up to eight tracks of audio simultaneously, the AW16G is the ideal portable digital recorder for live band recording - simply plug each microphone and instrument into its own channel, record the show, and then mix everything to perfection when you get home. Eight balanced channel inputs are provided, including two phantom powered XLR mic connectors and a hi-Z input for guitar. What’s more, it provides two complete blocks of multi-effects algorithms, including a variety of guitar amp/speaker simulators and high-quality mastering effects, giving you all the processing power you need to make professional-quality recordings.
CD-RW Drive: CDRW16G
The AW16G has an internal CD-RW drive, the CDRW16G provides a complete, high-quality recording solution all the way to CD. The CD-RW drive can also be used to back up recording session data.
Pro-quality Hardware Specs
Despite its affordable price, the AW16G boasts high-end specifications inside and out. High-quality 24-bit A/D-D/A converters are used on the analog input and output stages and are optimally tuned to the AW16G to ensure unparalleled sound quality. Optical S/PDIF input and output connections allow connection to DAT recorders, MD decks and other digital devices.
36 Channel Digital Mixer
Not just an outstanding digital multitrack recorder, the AW16G is also a high-performance mixer. With its 16 playback tracks, 4 effect returns, 4 stereo sample playback tracks, and 8 input channels, it gives you control over 36 channels of audio signals. Complete with two independent stereo multi-effects processors, the AW16G boasts truly amazing mixing capabilities for its size.
4-band Parametric EQ and Dynamics Processing on All Channels
EQ and compression play an important role in creating a professional-sounding mix. And the AW16G is the only digital audio workstation in its class to offer precision 4-band parametric EQ and studio-quality compression, expansion, gate and ducking on all channels.
PC Integration
Yamaha realizes that the integration of its hardware products with computer-based production is the ultimate goal for many users. Whether you use a PC for sequencing MIDI parts, editing audio, or as part of a larger studio setup, the AW16G can easily integrate with your music production environment. For starters, all audio recorded with the AW16G can be exported to a computer through the use of its optional CD-RW drive. Likewise, the AW16G can also import audio tracks that have been recorded and edited on computers and other devices. And with the ability to record all eight of its channel inputs simultaneously, the AW16G makes an ideal portable digital recorder to complement your Mac or PC-based recording system. What’s more, users of music production software such as Cubase, Logic and Sonar can use the AW16G as a MIDI Remote Control surface for convenient hands-on control over the virtual mixing console and transport of these applications using the physical faders and buttons of the AW16G. The AW16G can also be used to control synthesizers and other external MIDI devices.
Sound Clip Function
The AW16G’s Sound Clip function retains up to 180 seconds of recorded performance. Recording in a continuous loop, this function is ideal for capturing spontaneous musical ideas while practicing; you can quickly record without having to deal with input routings, track assignments and other time-consuming setups. At any time, you can stop the Sound Clip recorder, listen to the recorded content and copy any portion of it for later use. You can also play along with a drum loop and use effects while recording in Sound Clip mode.
AW4416 and AW2816 Compatibility
The AW16G is compatible with the backup file formats of both the AW4416 and the AW2816 Professional Audio Workstations, making it possible to import backup files directly from either of these workstations without having to first convert the audio tracks to a standard format like AIFF or .WAV. This allows you to exchange recording data with other Yamaha digital audio workstation users with the greatest of ease.
Note: The AW16G cannot read mixing data from the AW4416 or AW2816.
