The JRX118S is an 18" compact direct-radiation subwoofer designed to supplement and extend low frequency performance of full-range systems in live sound and music playback applications. It is an excellent choice for use with powered fullrange speakers or in systems using powered mixers. The JRX118S is driven by a massive JBL 18" woofer with a cast frame and 3" voice-coil. It’s rated at 350 watts (continuous) and 1400 watts (peak) – based on JBL Professional’s 100 hour extended life test.

  • The rugged enclosure is constructed from 19 mm (¾ in) MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) using advanced adhesives and mechanical fastener technology for durability and improved low-frequency performance. The enclosure is covered in black carpet.
  • A top mounted, cast aluminum 35 mm pole mount receptacle can receive an optional SS3BK pole to facilitate use of the JRX118SP as a base for a midhigh speaker cabinet.
  • High-voltage capacitors and inductors with massive cores and heavy gauge wire enable the crossover network to handle high power without saturating.
  • Non-resonant, all steel handles are used.
  • Attractive 18-gauge perforated steel grille protects components from damage.
  • 35 mm pole mount receptacle for use with satellite speakers.

This sub is great if you have at least two. Sensitivity and response are as good as you can expect at this price range. Unfortunately it\'s true that it doesn\'t go as deep as you would expect, but given the size of the cabinet and the price, it doesn\'t do a bad job, especially for live sound applications where a clear punchy bass is more valuable than ultra-deep bass.

To summarise; A good value rumble box.

JBLsub - Not too bad...

Well, I\'m going to keep this one short... I\'ve had the chance to hear a lot of PA kit in my time and I try not to favour one brand over the other. I think each one has their pro\'s and cons.

Well firstly the JBL fits in well with smaller loudspeakers because of it\'s upper bass response. So it suits smaller full range speakers in your PA set-up. Thats great if you carry smaller PA speakers as mains.

Where I did find they go wrong is, they don\'t go as deep as you\'d normally expect from an 18\" bin. However it does offer a more musical sound than some bass bins.

As for power, this is more for smaller rooms. It really is only capable of what it says on the tin, I wouldn\'t listen to the Peak rating as it doesn\'t like a big QSC PL380 amp at all and I would say at maximum power it with 400 watts with give and take a few tens of watts for overhead.

It\'s not that bad, but I just found it weak in my application - but I\'m sure it has it\'s place for others. It sounds good for a smaller venue.
