This is incredible condenser microphone for this price. I live in ex-soviet country \"Kazakhstan\" and we do not have so many music stores as in UK. Before SE2200a I didn`t know anything about this microphone and even brand. The only thing I was buying was a \"hope\". I tried to record my voice and it sounds like £1000 microphone. It gives very pleasant, clean and brilliant sound. Actually this kind of mic should be more expensive than actual price.

For £170 this is a stunning quality mic. And The fact that it comes with a flight case and cradle just takes the biscuit. Im usung the SE Electronics SE2200a to record jazz / folk flute straight into a MicPort Pro usb portable mic preamp to laptop at home and am getting results that any top end recording studio would be proud of. This is a revelation for me. I have been sessioning for many years in studios and messing around with a home studio but this is the first time ive had a set up at home that i would be happy to use to produce a pro recording. All my other mics mixers and pre amps have been binned.

I had one of these delivered last week from Dolphin\'s. Best price on the net. This is my first condenser. It is well built, feeling nice an weighty, comes with a flight style case and a shock-mount (with spare elastic). There is also an extra years warranty for registering it via SE\'s website which means 3 years in total.
It knocks the socks off anything in its price range and IMHO you need to spend well over double to get to the \"next level\". So far I have used it on an acoustic guitar. It has a lovely, neutral voice without being harsh. Not sure if links are allowed but have a listen www.markyguitar.co.uk .
May I also say that Dolphin\'s mail order is really efficient and items arrived when they said they would the next day - good work fellas!

I've had one of these for a while now, and if you want a good large diaphragm condensor, run away from the Rhode NT1(a)'s and pick up one of these.
Compared with the Rhode NT1 (which is should be as it's a similar mic and similar price) it has another level of class. NT1's are good, but sound "plastic" in comparison with the SE2200A.
A VERY good first condensor mic, doesn't add too much warmth or top end, and is just superbly clear and sensitive, and it came recommended from an ex-engineer from Realworld studios, (That's Peter Gabriel kids!)

The SE2200A may not be a drastic improvement on its "A-less" predecessor but it still represents excellent value for money for those looking for an all round condenser. Noise has been greatly reduced thanks to all new electronics which makes this an ideal choice for acoustic guitar / vocal applications. Its also a great choice for those looking for some room ambience in combination with direct miking techniques. It compares well with mic's costing 3 times (some have argued that it has the tonal response of a classic Neumann.....I wouldnt go quite that far). I have two of these in my mic trunk and tend to use them for those jobs where I dont know the client, material or recording environment particularly well..........i.e. its a good all rounder and should it fall victim to a studio accident i wont be faced with a bill akin to replacing my U87's.
My only criticism is the low cut seems a touch agressive....a minor fault but enough to prevent a 10 out of 10 rating. Be ready for jokes at your expense re the lovely aluminium vanity case it comes in though......
