Ibanez S770FM
For the last several years I\'ve dabbled with country, folk and blues, but then I realized I\'ve been lying to myself - I like the Randy Rhoads stuff too. And so began my quest to find the guitar to do the job. When I ordered this guitar, the hours I spent waiting for it to arrive seemed like an eternity, but when I finally got my hands on it and plugged it in I thought I\'d died and gone to Sto-vo-kor and found the pick of destiny. Now I am ready to do battle with the gods.
This is an amazing guitar. I used to own a USA Strat which cost twice as much as this one, and also have a Danelectro \'59, but would gladly swap them both for this. Even with it not plugged into anything it sounds really nice for a solid body electric. Whether it\'s the thickness of the wood I\'m not sure but it just seems to resonate really nicely. As I\'m doing a lot of recording at the moment I\'ve got it plugged into a Line 6 pocket pod which seems to give me pretty much any sound I want, although I found the pickups to be quite aggressive compared to the single coil pickup guitars I\'ve got used to playing - for example, even with the gain right down on some of the clean Line 6 amp models, it\'s still got quite a bit of crunch - really good if you want ACDC - nice crispy crunch. But you can just turn the volumn down on the guitar a bit if you want to get rid of the crunch all together. Also, I\'m really impressed with the tone control - on some guitars the tone does nothing till you get right to the end and the tone drops right off, but the S770 tone control is really smooth so you can get some quite nice variations of tones out of it. Also, the in between positions on the selector switch give the guitar a nice sweet tone similar to a Strat.
The only thing I can think of to make my guitar even better is to maybe swap the middle single coil pickup for something like the Seymour Duncan SL59-1 so that the mid position has a bit more power. Overall though, I would still give this guitar 10/10. This is one awesome guitar, with attitude!
