With the appeal of one of the first mass-produced 'single cut 'n' single coil' style of electric guitars still showing no sign of diminishing even after almost 60 years – and rightly so, why should it? – Vintage has added four interesting takes on the stalwart design to its catalogue.
The V52 offers a playing experience in this style of guitar that nudges the enjoyment factor well up to the upper end of the scale. As always with the Vintage range, guitar design ubermeister Trev Wilkinson has overseen production, ensuring that the performance of the pickups on these guitars is more than capable of matching the good looks. As such, all V52 pickups are alnico-powered for maximum tone 'n' twang, alongside the conventional T-type horizontal 3-way pickup selector on the control plate.
One more thing – being the detail freak that he is, Trev can't quite leave it at that. So there's the period-correct single ply distressed black scratchplate on the V52, but even better is the up-specced Wilkinson WVOB bridge pickup with its flat-level alnico polepieces surrounded by Trev's custom wound construction, giving even more of that lovely dry trademark 50's 'bite' in the V52 Icon's dynamic twang!
