Sequencer

MASCHINE lets you create rhythms, bass lines, chords and melodies easily, and arrange them into complete tracks on-the-fly.

  • Two modes: XOX drum machine step sequencer and MPC®-style live recording
  • Clip-based concept for intuitive arrangement of your project into scenes and songs
  • Classic groove box functions such as 16 velocity levels, swing (sounds, groups, global), pad-link, and note repeat

Sampler

MASCHINE is based on a high-performance sampler, allowing audio recording of internal or external sources, and precise sample playback.

  • Sample-length and number of samples only limited by your computer's RAM capacity
  • Polyphony up to 32 voices for each sound, with choke, legato and glide options
  • Powerful slicing by transient detection, fixed grid or equal splits with automatic pad assignment
  • Destructive sample editing (e.g. truncate, normalize, reverse, etc)
  • Convenient import of own samples, REX2 files and MPC® programs
  • Vintage Sampling Modes emulating the sound of the MPC60® and/ SP1200®

Plug-in Hosting

Use any Native Instruments or 3rd party VST® or Audio Units™ plug-ins directly inside MASCHINE. You can even hook up combinations: e.g. load MASSIVE* to Slot 1 and GUITAR RIG* to Slot 2 – and tweak them both from the hardware controller - the parameters are automatically mapped to the knobs on the MASCHINE hardware..

I have been wanting Maschine since its release but due to the high price I had to wait but the wait was worth it.

For the past few years i have been using my desktop mouse or track pad on my macbook pro to deal with midi and such a method can be....lame.
Seeing as how integrated the hardware is with the software such \'boring times\' are a thing of the past!
Oh, and Maschine is fun to use, very fun!

All the issues I have read about are being fixed with the new 1.5 update and that was a big deal for me because with the continued support from NI this product can only get better.

I really like Maschine because it is a Sampler, Drum machine and MIDI controller all in one. Everything I wanted. The rotary knobs feel very good and so do the pads. The hardware itself looks good and I would feel perfectly happy taking Maschine to gigs and such places.

On Youtube there are extensive videos dealing with Maschine and the NI youtube channel has a heap of useful tutorials.

As I keep saying, \'Maschine has changed how I work now and i love it.\'

Ok, I will keep it short. It is a very powerful tool when once mastered and you re think your work flow. Sounds are great the Fx are very useable within mix and on the fly, the interface takes a little understanding but nothing a glossy over the manual carnt fix.

Sadly the input from comp to maschine is quirky and I have still not managed to get sounds into mashince

over all yes..worth buying and future proof.

Native Intstruments Maschine

The unit is beautifull, well built and feels very solid.

The DAW integration is bit limited (no MIDI) but this is specified by NI. NI said soon there will be an big update that will implement these things wich are usefull for a full DAW integration. For instance, you cant \"record\" midi clips on Ableton Live so Maschine acts more like an instrument.

The main problem for me is the lack of stability of Maschine, standalone or plugin, on my system (Vista64, HP HDX18 laptop, 4gb ram 2,6ghz). The first days, the unit crashed my computer alot (blue screen) and I found out through forums that this problem happened to a relevant number of users (mac and PC as well). However, the majority of users dont report crashing problems. I finally detected some sort of conflict with my graphic card (NVIDA Gforce 100 series). After the graphic card driver update, it hasn\'t crashed so far, but I experience ocasional freezing (with no sound cuts) when using it with ableton. Some users say having the library on an external drive can also help.

Problems aside, the unit is very intuitive and the workflow is powerfull and creative. I never touch the mouse, you can do nearly everything just using the Maschine controller (its really a midi controler, not a hardware unit itself). It sounds very good, the 5gb sample library loads very fast (on my system) and the sounds are excelent. The FX are very good too and since the controler is built for the software, there is an overall feel of total integration where everything is where it should be.
Programing drum loops and improvising over them is great. Pads are very velocity sensible and have a dense rubber feel.

It doesnt put big strain on CPU power. The most critical aspect of it is really the stability (in my case). I do however own other NI software and its very stable so I\'m confident that next fixes will have this sort out.
