The Tube Ultragain MIC200 is a high-end vacuum tube mic/line preamplifier with preamp modeling technology and an integrated limiter for studio, live and hard disk recording applications.

Our super-flexible preamp modeling allows you to quickly optimize your recordings by choosing from 16 preamp voicings designed for vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars, keyboards, drums, and more. In addition, it utilizes a carefully selected 12AX7 vacuum tube with UTC technology for exceptional warmth and low noise.

The Tube Ultragain MIC200 can be used to warm-up the sterile, analytical sound of standard digital recordings and sound cards. It is also the perfect complement to studio-grade condenser microphones.

When used as a high-end DI-box, it provides outstanding signal integrity. The Tube Ultragain MIC200 includes a phase reverse switch, +48 V phantom power and 20 dB pad. Balanced ¼" TRS inputs and outputs and gold-plated XLR connectors provide a nice finishing touch.

Very Good for the Money

With my original plan being to buy a cheaply priced preamp until I could afford to spend more money, I was very satisfied with the Behringer Ultragain MIC200 indeed, and now have dropped plans of buying a more expensive one. Very, very good value for money. Having used Rode NT-1A\'s on various setups for quite a few years, I\'m fairly used to how one should sound through a high-end mixing console. Using my own Rode NT-1A on this preamp made me switch opinion from \"making do for now \'til I can fork out more\", to being very happy with this piece of kit. :) I notice there are a couple of rather negative reviews, saying that it makes noise. Perhaps you have an unbalanced connection on the input and/or output. Mine\'s totally balanced and is practically silent. You guys who are saying there\'s noise, I\'d research balanced/unbalanced connections if I was you, if you don\'t already know it that is. If you do have an unbalanced connection, balanced makes all the difference. :)

Mic200

This is a very useful box for if you don't have a decent channel strip for home recording. Live it makes a good line box and taking both XLR and balanced or unbalanced 1/4" TSR jacks on input and output is excellent for whatever you are connecting up. The phantom power is very useful for a condenser mic or indeed any kind of powered box you want to have before it.
I liked the fact that it can handle a large variety of sources - it can be dipped 20dB - and it takes a lot to clip the signal. Low cut is also handy for eliminating the useless low end rumble from mics.

It's noisier than a high end Mic pre sure - but being realistic it is far, far superior to a basic soundcard mic input.
It has more character and a range of different tonal colours than a stock mixer Mic pre too, plus the tube adds a certain amount of harmonics to the signal.
It doesn't work magic on anything however - despite what some reviews might make you think - although the different settings have quite pronounced equalisation shifts about them. I would agree also that the limiter settings do seem a little uncontrollable and useless for recording work.

A superb box to have about though for connecting almost anything to anything - particularily live -

MIC200

The Behringer MIC200 is totally useless for recording applications because of the high level of AC hum. This may be due to the 12AX7 filiment being powered by AC instead of DC. May also be inadequent power supply filtering. I dunno. The power supply is a 9vac wall wart (a no no for serious recording applicatons). Behringer is not very helpful and refused to supply a schematic so I can't make a detailed appraisal without more information. Buyer beware.

No problems with this at all. A great, handy way to add some colour and warmth and boost the sound level before it gets digitized. the result is higher quality, warmer vocals.

If, like me, getting that shimmering, harminoc-rich sound for your acoustic guitar remains a mystery, this box will be a godsend. You just plug it in, choose from one of a number of pre-amp settings, and you sound like you know what you're about. Settings balance use of the valve and the limiter, and my experience so far suggests that the limiter is a bit clumsy for recording, although as a valve pre-amp it's fine. I reckon it will also transform live situations.
