The tuning planks on modern pianos are made of laminated solid wood. This gives the piano a far longer life than one made between the turn of the century and the 1930's a period when the majority of pianos were sold in the UK.
Because so few new pianos were sold in the UK from the 1950's onwards, we source most of our modern instruments from Japan, since the Japanese have the highest ownership of pianos in the world and the quality of their manufacture is recognised by professional musicians worldwide.
