Blue KickBall
This is an excellent microphone, I\'m very much into drum sounds and recording / production of drum kit, I\'ve used in the past mainly AKG D112 and D12 for the bass drum and have found myself having to gate and add multiband compression to the bass tracks regardless of placement, with this I haven\'t had to do anything! its awesome! the bass drum tracks are very clean cut, on the + setting it has the click I\'m after but also has the low powered bass thud.
a very nice sound at a good price.. I have no idea why they have discontinued them... maybe karma? they were too good!?!?

I teach recording and technology for Access to Music at East Riding College - I bought myself one of these funky looking mics as an xmas treat, and I\\\'m not regretting it!
A lovely looking mic and a big hit with all my students - we tend to leave it on boost setting, which is excellent for metal kick drum and guitar sounds - the bottom boost brings out some of the \\\'cabinet\\\' sound nicely on distorted guitars and delivers a pre-eq\\\'ed kick sound with the a top boost that establishes the kick in the mix.
The only downside is the wierd fitting - you wont be able to get this in a kick drum with a normal mic stand - you will need a specialist bracket so budget for that, and you will need a desk that can supply phantom power.
Apart from that, buy it - its cheaper than a D112, and quite frankly I prefer it...
