The Sennheiser freePORT Instrument Set is configured for electric guitars or any instrument with a 1/4-inch jack socket output and combines the body pack transmitter and diversity receiver with a guitar cable, a wall adapter power supply and manual are also included. The Sennheiser freePORT Instrument Set's offers four switchable UHF frequencies and allows up to four systems to be operated simultaneously with no interference, making the freePORT products ideal for group use. Diversity technology optimizes reception while a bright, natural sound quality is offered through the integrated dynamic processing. The compact freePORT Instrument Set's diversity receiver offers both XLR balanced and 1/4-inch jack unbalanced output options.

The Sennheiser freePORT Instrument Set features robust housings for a longer product life. The freePORT Instrument Set offers extended continuous operation of up to ten hours from a single 9V battery.

A diversity receiver, as used in the Sennheiser freePort Instrument Set wireless system, contains two seperate antennaes, each antennae has an independent receiver and the signals are demodulated seperately. The main unit scans these two outputs and seamlessly selects the output with the strongest signal for processing. The result is a wireless system with fewer drop outs, less interference and more reliable reception.

UHF, the frequncy range the Sennheiser freePort Instrument Set uses, operates in a higher frequency range than VHF systems. The VHF range is very highly populated with traffic, and because the VHF signal has a longer wave length, VHF radio signals pass through non-metallic walls easier than a UHF signal, making VHF wireless systems more prone to radio interference. Though more expensive than VHF wirelss, UHF is well worth the extra cost.
