Focusrite Liquid 4pre review

After finally waiting for a year to get my hands on this product, I have waited with baited breath to get my ears around it, and boy and am i impressed.

I have been quite fortunate to use and own some of the pre amps that they have sampled and put in this unit (I realise they use convolution thingys and stuff, but that takes too long to type, so i shortened it to sampling) and so far to my ears they sound VERY similar. You really can recreate some of the magic these exotic pre amps make.

So far i have used fairly average microphones (inc ADK TL Pro, Blue Ball, SE Z5600A) and the response they create to a variety of instruments is fantastic. I can not wait to use my more expensive mics on this 4pre, to hear the results.

Having the variety of 40 top quality pre amps at the flick of a switch or click of a mouse is amazing. This really offers the engineer the opportunity to hear why certain pre amps are used for certain instruments and mics.

Will this product make great recordings? Well yes if used in conjunction with good musicians and recorded in good sounding rooms. However, i feel you would find it difficult (not impossible) to distinguish all of the pre amps if all of your material has been recorded in less than ideal circumstances as some of the differences are quite subtle.

Would i sell mine now that i have it? No, you would have to pry it from my dead arms. I love mine and cannot wait to use it on all of the projects that i have lined up (commercial and otherwise).

My negatives on this product are only that it is pretty expensive and perhaps dare i say it, it offers too much choice.
