This amp and speaker combination is without question 1 of the top 5 bass setups I have ever heard! It does everything it says on the tin. The overall size of both units is very compact and it has features which will appeal to all styles of players.This is the wolf in sheeps clothing.When you wind it up the sheer power is mind boggling...it is loud!(With extension cabinet it throws out 450watts).Nice to see there are speakon connections fitted as standard - although no speakon lead is supplied.The only downside - loose components on crossover units which caused a mechanical rattle in the cabinets,a problem Marshall have probably dealt with already.That aside,this is a great amp and I would suggest the extension cabinet is a must.
An Excellent Buy
I have had this amplifier for just over a month now and I can honestly say it was the best buy I\\\'ve made in a long time.
I\\\'ve never been a fan of Marshall amps before, because I\\\'ve always thought they\\\'ve been using a name and a history to sell amps, rather than developing their models to provide something that no one else on the market has. I was proved wrong when I bought this.
The amp is built like a tank. I\\\'ve taken it on trains where it has been knocked, been stood on by Leeds United fans and been abused in every way possible. It\\\'s been dragged round the streets of Liverpool whilst looking for a venue. Yet even after that it looks like it\\\'s brand new out the box.
Every sound phyiscally possible is available through this amp. The two channels provide the option of a solid state sound or the warmness of a valve. The blend channel is one of the best ideas I can think of. I have managed to create everything from the hard sound of the metal bands, to a Flea-like sound, to the sound of Jaco Pastorious. The 2 10\\\" speakers provide the punchiness and response for all the sounds I need, and when I have the funds, the amp provides me with space to extend the speakers and I will add a 1 15\\\" cabinet.
I have two problems with this amp, hence the 8/10.
1. The compressor is far too noisy and you can hear when it comes in. If i do use the compressor I will only put it on 1, as above that it ruins the sound. Mostly I turn it off.
2. My amp developed a buzz within a month of buying it. Marshall took it away straight away and it was fairly quick to come back in comparison to when I\\\'ve had to send bass guitar\\\'s away to the manufacturers. I was satisfied with this service, but as the same time I expect a £300+ amp not to develop a fault within a month.
In summary, this amp is one of the best buys for this price range and power output.
Marshall MB4210
An excellent bass combo more then capable of gigging, the Marshall MB4210 is effectively a 3 channel amp. Channel 1 is solid state, excellent for slap bass and similar to high end 80\'s bass amps. Channel 2 has a valve pre-amp and gives a great rock \"grind\" tone.
The clever part is the ability to blend these two pre-amps to create a distinctive 3rd channel, making this a very versatile amp with great tone. Add in the included footswitch, balanced line out and the ability to add the available 1x15 extension cab (making the amp a collosal 450w!), this is a great gigging amp.
The only thing stopping it getting a 10 is the over-enthusiastic compressor which audibly clicks on. My suggestions is to leave the compressor turned off, and if you need a compressor, get a stand alone pedal to front-end the whole unit.
Marshall MB4210
I had been playing through an old Laney RBW300 for the last few years and had used it at smaller gigs.
Sadly it recently blew up on me while rehearsing.
Not having much money i was lookimg for a replacement amp round the £300 mark. I was originally looking at an Ashdown then a friend mentioned this new Marshall.
I\'ve played through various bass amps and knew little of the Marshall but having played, and gigged this amp I am more than happy.
Cant be arsed going through all the technical details but it is 300w (450w with an extension cab), and has 2 switchable channels (footswitch included).
The modern channel has a really clean and punchy sound that is good for more or less everything.
The classic channel has more of a distorted buzz to it and with a bit of fiddling round i was able to create a sound similar to that of John Entwhistle but generally i stick with the modern channel.
A mate of mine has an Ashdown and while it is an excellent amp i cant see any better amps round now for this price and its a Marshall!! Nothing more rock n roll than that.
The only reason i\'ve not given it 10 stars is cos i dont beleive in perfection.
You may have to fiddle round to get your ideal sound but you WILL get that sound and you will love this amp.
Not seen any better for £307.
