Akira started playing drums at the age of 18 at Keio University in Japan, where he became a member of the school’s Light Music Society Big Band. In 1980 he joined the group Casiopea, releasing over a dozen albums and touring internationally. Since the beginning of his career Akira trusts in the perfect quality of yamaha drums. His currant signature snare features an 8-ply beech sheel fitted with our Vintage Wood Hoops and Hi-carbon steel snares. This unique 13 x 7 inch snare produces a fat punch, with a warm, silky undertone – attributes, that makes Akira's snare the perfect choice for professionals all over the world.

You're brand new, you're retro.

Akira Jimbo's snare drum is Japan in 13" by 7" of wood and steel joy. What am I talking about? Well if you've ever been to Japan you'll know that you will see the most cutting edge of technology side by side with the most beautiful and ascetically pleasing of the past, an Ipod next to a Temple if you like. And that's what this snare is, it's the past updated with the future. A wonderfully light shell with glorious wooden hoops gives the drum a very light and funky sound. A nice smooth snare mechanism and small lugs adds up to a really nice little snare drum. The only thing I didn't like was the Remo made Yamaha heads which aren't of the same quality. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a snare you can get some nice solid backbeats with but also some nice funky overtones. Li desu yo! As they say in Japan.
