So I've just taken delivery of the C03U podcasting pa(c)k.

I've only had three issues so far:

1. The biggest is that I podcast using a piece of software that comes bundled with my (Creative Labs) X-Fi Platinum, called Smart Recorder. This makes light work of podcasting with music as you can record all audio passing through the soundcard in one hit. I hadn't twigged that as the microphone is USB, and treated as a separate audio device, that you cannot use this software. I've yet to find a way of doing it with the bundled Sonar LE software, although I can record audio segments and drop them in as part of an overall mix.

2. The microphone seems awfully quiet, that is audio recorded on it is very quiet. I've played around with the switches on the microphone, and boosted the levels as much as possible in Sonar, which have helped. Even so, the microphone needs to be very close to me to pickup audio at a decent volume.

3. I was getting a slight but annoying buzzing from the start. I changed the microphone type, using a switch on the body of the microphone, and this stopped it.

Issue 1 is a real problem for me, but I'll have to live with it now. Arguably I should have bought a microphone that connects directly to the soundcard, but c'est la vie - the world of microphones is a confusing one. Other than the above, the microphone looks and feels very solidly built, as does the stand.

Overall 4/10.
