SE Electronics Instrument Reflexion Filter
I've used the big Reflexion for a while now and, while not perfect (Heavy!!!!) it's become indispensible in my rather imperfect studio. So I saw the instrument version was available and bought 2. Good things:- using Rode NT5s, they do exactly what it says on the tin and they do it extremely well and nearly without getting in the way of the recordee. Bad things:- 1. the manual refers to foam plugs to fill around the mic inside the mounting, but they aren't provided. I made my own because I found that they are essential. 2. The goosenecks move once you've set them and the clamps can rotate on the stand, so you have to keep tweaking the mic position to put them back where you want them. This isn't a severe problem as a bit of tape under the clamp solves one bit and my mic placement isn't millimeter perfect, but I would have liked a solid mount with a mic stand socket. 3. They make SM57s a bit too dead for me (I don't do drum kits or big guitar amps where this may be an advantage). One extra point to make is that I've tried them live on acoustic guitar, banjo and mandolin and they work great, cutting down on feedback and reducing resonances. Unfortunately, they do look very huge and crap to an audience.
