Behringer VINTAGE ANALOG DELAY VD400
This is simply an amazing pedal if you are after vintage echo and slapback sounds. Fully analog, bucket-brigade echo - wonderful warm sound and lots of creative potential with its self-oscillation festure. I\'ve tried most other makes and models, including some rather expensive boutique ones, and this pedal has ended my quest. How nobody else has been able to do this before for this kind of money beats me - good old Behringer!
Behringer VD400
I just received the Behringer VD400 Vintage Delay pedal and have been tweaking knobs all night - this thing is addictive! This is the first analog delay I have ever used, and can only compare it to the built in digital delays in the various synths I\'ve used (Korg M1, microKorg, Z1, Kurzweil 2500, and my little Novation Nova).
The Behringer simply blows them all away. The delay time isn\'t very long (300 msec) compared to most digital delays (usually several seconds), but the control is very hands on - no buried menus or multi-function buttons. The repeat rate and intensity knobs can be tweaked in real time to give that sped up or slowed down effect ala Eddie Grant\'s \"Electric Avenue\". By adjusting the intensity amount just to the point of feedback, you can achieve that very retro effect heard on songs like at the end of Smashmouth\'s \"Walking on the Sun\" and countless ELO and Prince tunes.
For the amazingly low price of about $29 US dollars, you can get a warm sounding and extremely versatile effects pedal that is sure to become a classic. You know you want one - you\'ve scoured eBay and Craigslist for beat up, used (or \"Classic\") analog delay pedals that have all their knobs and don\'t cost more than $100. Forget them and buy a brand new pedal with no scratches, dents, and runs on a 9 volt battery (or adapter if you want).
The body of the pedal is plastic, but has a nice heft to it (the rubber coated steel foot plate will keep it from sliding around). The bypass switch is very quiet - I haven\'t been able to hear an audible \"click\" yet. The pots are smooth and the jacks really hold onto the plugs. The delay does seem favor the lower frequencies - for instance a high hat won\'t be delayed at the same intensity as a kick drum. Again though, for the money, this pedal will make you VERY happy - don\'t delay! (pun intended :)
