Edirol MA-15D - Black
I wanted to upgrade to a more powerful pair of small monitors –the Black MA-15’s being the obvious choice for both price and reliability (previously owning a pair of MA-10D’s).
Bad points: there was a slight rattle on the main speaker when played at high volume which was rectified by tightening a screw!
The orange light – for some reason I find it annoying. Odd but I’m being honest. A green LED would have been better here. It seems to be too powerful and bored into my eyes like a laser-pointer. I solved this with a small piece of black insulating tape.
Good Points: The sheer increase in clarity and punch from the MA-10’s is surprising.
The speakers, in a small to medium-sized room, are LOUD.
Secondly, with the 24bit/192kHz sample rate conversion, the quality when used with a fairly good soundcard is very good indeed (I’m using an E-MU 1616M).
I tried the bass boost but found I preferred the natural sound for monitoring. It does add depth and weight but I found for my personal tastes, I preferred to use mix without it to see how the overall sound translates on its own.
These reproduce music a lot more honestly than the MA-10D’s I previously used and commercially-produced CDs sound clear and dynamic.
The sound quality is actually very accurate and depending on what monitors you previously used, you may find some of your previous mixes sound thin, but using reference CD’s by pro artists you can see how the sound translates and compensate.
I’m rating this a 9, simply for the fact that I hate the orange LED.
I’m glad I bought these - a really good investment, no regrets.
Edirol MA-15D
I just got these speakers and I must say they are really good! For the price I didn\\\'t think they would be this good in quality. The bass enhancer is very good and for the price. I have heard the KRK Rokit monitors and in my opinion these are pretty much as good. The volumes can go very loud to give the best listen for music. These are perfect for my home studio. I would recommend these speakers to anyone.
Edirol MA-15D - Black
These monitors are great for computer musicians looking for decent sound in a confined space. They have plenty of inputs to suit most needs and, for the price, offer a well-balanced sound across the range. I have monitored using both headphones and a separate speaker/amps setup and these self-contained monitors are well worth the money by comparison. Just make sure you have a decent sound card to do them justice!
Dinky little monitors with lots of space
As a home recording artist who previously had only used headphones for reference work I decided from other reviews on the advice of friends that the MA-15's would be ideal for my needs.
I must say i'm very impressed with the space, separation and clarity of these dinky little monitors. More than powerful enough for a bedroom producer. As an initial test i fired on some of my favourite records, eq'd completely flat, and was blown away by how much more room the records have to breath and the separation in the mix. I'm now gonna have to go back and listen to the whole lot again :)
Coupled with Dolphins normal fantastic delivery and prices these are a fantastic purchase.
Only down side is the lack of bass for some genres.
Edirol MA-15D
My decision to buy the Edirol MA-15D was purely based on the digital connections it has, oh and the price was really cheap so worth taking a risk on. I am so glad I bought these, I have been mixing with a pair of DT100 headphones and could not believe the difference mixing with a set of monitors. I have been recording on a boss Br 1200 and needed a set of speakers that had an optical input and the Edirols has that and loads more connectivity besides. I love the sound of these speakers very clear with enough bottom end. I could not believe what I was missing in mixes with the headphones until I got these monitors. Independent controls for digital and analogue which lets you hook up 2 devices at once, very handy. I have also used the MA-15D\'s on my playstation 3 which again is unbelievable sound quality, it makes you realise just how much sound you did not know was present in a game. If you are thinking about getting these very versatile monitors, don\'t hesitate just get them you won\'t regret it.
