Lots of good reviews for this mic made me buy it. Dolphin were very helpful too. The sound levels are awful and searching the web, now that I have made my purchase (!), I found many other people also had problems. Samson have not responded to email enquiries. There is a software pre-amp but it is not very stable. The only way to get a good recording level out of it (without having your mouth less than 6 inches from the mic) is to put the volume up to 100%. My old headset mic picked up more ambient noise than this and was also louder on the voice portion of recordings.

There is a distinct background hum that I am having to edit out.

I am not using the recording software that came with it, but it works adequately using Audacity or a few other tools. You may have to boost the volume after recording though (which boosts that hum so it becomes a problem).

It is solidly built and looks like it will last. The kit lacks a pop-filter so I got the PS01 too - and there is no space for it in the box, which is a shame.

I hope they fix the pre-amp because the recording levels wreck what is otherwise a well built microphone.

good warm sounding microphone but lacks on wind and popping. If you are going to purchase this mic i would recommend a pop filter.
