vox da5
i was looking for a compact well built amp, after reading a lot of reviews and peoples youtube comments, it was between a roland mini cube or the vox da5, i chose the da5, and im very very happy with the choice. lots of amp models and loads of quality effect options, this amp has literally got EVERYTHING you could possibly want, all the effects are high quality, and overall it produces a great full meaty sound. personally, after owning an orange 30watt combo, a marshall 100watt head and 4 x 12 cab, and also a laney linebacker 40watt combo, this beats them all on useability, its only 5 watts but it punches way above its weight, tho obviously it cant compete with the large wattage of the other amps, im happier with this. as a practise amp, its truly great. jason. :o)
Vox Classic DA5
I wanted a simple amplifier with lots of effects for a 7 year old. I got exactly what I wanted with this, recommended by his guitar teacher. It is so easy to use, excellent for the home and light enough to take out and about.

This is a great little amp and a credit to VOX. The sound is warm and \"valvey\' and all the presets are usable. I agree that it is a little boxy soundwise but look at the size of this thing. I used the line out for recording with some trepidation expecting hiss etc, but there was none! It has enriched the recordings I have made adding warmth. For the money its great plus it looks the part wuth excellent build quality

I\'ve had this amp for nearly two weeks now. I bought it because I wanted something small that could sit next to my desk and portable enough to carry from room to room if needed. I also own a 2x12 tube combo that I gig with but that lives in the practice room/studio.
Although I wanted something small, light and portable I wasn\'t prepared to sacrifice tone and I read every review I could and played every different amp in this category.
I have to say that I was quite blown away by this little gem. The tones are great and help you get a multitude of pleasing and usable tones. I\'ve used my MIA strat with its single coil twang and it sounds good and also my PRS singlecut and the humbuckers respond very well again.
The effects are completely usable also and range from simple reverb to auto wah with a host of others and mixed ones in between. There is also the ability to increase/decrease the effect and the ability to bypass all effects. It also has a tap temp function which is very useful.
There is the added function of being able to store your own settings and effects although I haven\'t needed to go down this route yet as I have not fully exhausted all the tones that come from the many presets and effects.
The only down side is the sound has a \'boxyness\' about it which is only to be expected from the small speaker but using the line out and/or headphones allows you to hear the amp at its best. It also has a speaker out function so I might try and get it to run through a decent cab and see how that goes.
The boxiness is something that can be accepted, this will never sound as good as my all tube combo\'s but for what it is and the price it is, it sounds perfect as a practice amp. It responds well to pick attack and your guitars volume control. And it looks great too.
Vox DA5 Classic
It's a great and lovely little amp, full bodied, well thought out. I play in bars and lounges and I also use it for, ahem...vocals. It probably wouldn't suit everybody's voice but it gives mine a pleasing slightly raspy radioish quality. That's with the mike plugged in the main input. Guitars sound fab in it too! (How 'bout that.) The mike input on the back sounds crummy and is pretty well unusable. The line-in doesn't sound very hifi either. A pity for sure, the not-swellness of these two features but the basic sound, the amp models and effects are really, really good and it looks smashing. If it weren't for the rear inputs low quality, I'd give it an 11. And I can't see why anyone would buy anything but the Classic model. Red with a metal grill? Not.
