Yamaha RBX374 Red Metallic Reviews

8/10

Nice guitar for the money

I bought this guitar to move on from my RBX170. I'd gigged maybe a dozen times with the 170, and generally found that it punched beyond it's weight for the price. I purchased the RBX374 mostly on the grounds of how well I thought the RBX170 performed compared to it's price, hoping it would be the same kind of story. I'm pleased to say that so far it seems to be the case.

There was a problem with a batch of the RBX374's and the electronics. Basically two wires on the jack where the wrong way round, preventing the circuitry from turning itself off when the jack wasn't plugged in. A quick check with a multimeter when confirmed that mine wasn't affected by this issue. I have seen on some forums that Yamaha can issue you instructions to fix this issue (if your ok soldering) or you can send it to Yam for them to fix it.

The tonal range is good enough to cover most styles. I personally like to play with very little treble, and this copes fine with that. The action is comfortable and has a nice feel. One problem I did notice (caused by own technique) was that I was sometimes hitting one of the pickups with my plectrum, as the space between the tow pickups is much smaller than the 170. It didn't take me long to get used to this though and adjust my technique. One nice touch if you finger pick is the thumb shaped rest built into the pickups, very well thought out.

The stock strings do the job, but I don't think mine will stay on long. I prefer flat wounds.

This bass is a little heavier than my last one. This shouldn't be a problem unless you're a real pansy, in which case it may start to get uncomfortable after a few hours.

Finish and look wise is where I love this guitar. The black neck is very sexy in my opinion. I'm also in love with the metal bits. The knobs, machine heads and bridge are a beautiful shiny black.

I did try a Squire Jazz bass as well as this. I much preferred the feel and sound from this though. Some people may also want to look at the Ibanez SRX300BBL. Sadly I didn't get a chance to play this to generate a comparison.

Overall I'm very pleased with it. For the money it performs very well and I would recommend it to a friend looking at spending about £200.

Price Matching

Dolphin Music brings you the best music gear at the best price. We are committed to superior customer service and have extensive product knowledge. However, in today’s market we may not always be aware of all the price fluctuations of the products we sell. So, we offer competitive price matching.

Please fill in the following form to request a price match.

What prices we will match?

We will compare prices for new, direct from manufacturer items, excluding any add-ons, options, or other special features which may affect price.

The item must be new and must be the exact same make and model (ie, the same size, version, etc.).

Since our postage charges are lower than most of the shops, the comparison price must be a "delivered cost" to the consumer.

If we are unable to verify the previous condition, we will notify you that we require additional information to verify the Price Match request. Our goal is to make this policy simple and hassle-free. We are committed to responding to your requests quickly.

The price you have found must be the Internet Retailer's regular, advertised price for a current and available item. The price you found cannot be a closeout, discontinued, blemished, year-end, inventory reduction, or any other type of advertised sale price.

Price Matching requests may not be combined with any other promotional discounts, specials or other price incentives.

Prices and price sources you have found which do not meet the above criteria or in which incomplete or inaccurate information is provided to us, will not be approved for our Price Match.
