Clone Theory
This pedal is about as much chorus as you can expect to get for the money. With three modes (including vibrato), The Clone Theory is certainly more flexible than other pedals in its price range. However, with affordabilty comes the inevitable price: A little noise. Nothing bad on its own, the hiss is pretty standard noise, nothing awful and no interruption of the tone- rather, the main drawback is just a lack of true transparency. The worth of the two shades of chorus available certainly makes up for it- mode 1 is standard for chorus as a subtle effect and mode two is for those of us (myself included) who embrace the shimmer and want to let it ravage the world. An extraordinarily raised depth and width on mode 2 conjures up tones that lend themselves well to the Robert Smith/ Johnny Marr guitar sounds of the early 80s. Mode two will also pull a track up in the mix pretty quickly when the high end is disappearing. All in all, a great buy for the price- but if you are in search of perfection- well- that costs more money than this.
