Not bad
For its price range, it well desireves 8 stars, but it possible for £40 more to get a Fender Squier Delux Jazz V (five string) which will sound alot better.
This bass is perfect for a beginner, i tried it out with a Behringer BXL900A, and this bass sounded better than my Bluerock PBX 4 string (Bluerock is a rip-off brand of Fender), but not alot better, the people who made my bluerock really knew what they were doing, but this bass has better sound when changing tone, and that phat EQ is pretty awsome.
If it was made with a better quality wood this bass would be alot better, but as i said, it will do for a beginner, i was almost tempted, but then decided to hold back and wait till i got the money for the SRX365 five string which is new in 2009.
If you want to learn bass, i believe this is a step up from the standard Squier and would be a good choice.
It has a thin, fast neck, really easy to get used to. The neck would also be very suitable for those in this world with small hands, which I dont have, so the width of the neck will never bother me.
Parents thinking of buying this for their child, it is a good choice, but if you think your child may not stick to playing bass then maybe go for the GSR180 with the package, but this bass will sound better and would be more suitable for a longer time as they get better.
If i owned this, i may get tempted to replace this pick-ups with Seymour duncan pickups, but thats because i love those pickups.
Overall, it isnt that bad.
