SA2020FM features specially designed DiMarzio/IBZ pickups with alnico magnet. Neck pickup provides good response, rich attack, rich harmonics and warm sound, and bridge pickup provides rich mids and low end. Powerful sound with clear sustain.

SAT trem systems offer wide pitch spacing for better response. Only the front section of the two piece saddle raises, for more stable intonation. The pop in trem arm is swing tension adjustable.

This is my third Ibanez (one of two I currently own) and my second new guitar in the space of a month (lucky me). Bought this one in March 07 from Dolphin Music. I\'m a fairly recent Ibanez convert having been playing them since the middle of last year.

This was an unexpected purchase - the price was right and I\'d earned a bit of extra cash. I was half looking for a replacement for my SA160 - which I\'d sold to make space then regretted and found this for ten quid more than an SA260.

OK spec wise this is a H/S/S guitar (with a twist - I\'ll come to that later). It has small maghogany body with a thin flamed maple cap - the body has an carved top and flat back - it\'s fanatastically comfortable. The bridge is a two point non locking SAT-PRO trem, It has thin sabre fixed neck with 22 medium frets. The headstock is flame vaneered and the traditional Ibanez style (the silver logo looks particularly effective). Hardware is chrome - and works really well - the bridge is tricky to adjust, becuase it\'s so adjustable (easy once you read the book). This is the fixed neck model, the heel is sculptured into the body allow full access to the dusty end of the fretboard.

The guitar is finsished in red sunburst and has abalone binding and fret markers (it looks stunning). The body shape is very subtle (yes I know, Ibanez and subtle are not often used in the same breath) and ths guitar would easily appeal to a range of players and styles

Okay so onto playability. The H/S/S arrangment makes for an impressive range of sounds - the s/coils in neck and mid positions combine with the mahogany body to give a \"dark Strat\" sound. The humbucker sounds fat and crunchy - very similar to an SG in the bridge position (it\'s a bit light on bass - but I like that, others may not). This pickup is described as a \"Tru duo bucker\" what that means is it\'s actaully 2 pickups in one - a stacked humbucker and a single coil. So when you pop the volume pot up you swap to single coil mode - true single coil sounds without the volume loss of a coil tap. Convincing? - certainly is !! I really love the s/coil mode - it sounds like a single coil pickup should - great with some chorus, delay and reverb.

Playing wise the guitar performs stunningly - it feels really small and is comfortable in every position. The neck is thin and fast - if your not a fan of thin necks then this guitar is probably not for you. Whammy abuse is possible - the guitar returns well to pitch - although if you want dive bombs you\'ll prefer an RG or an S.

Build wise - I can\'t fault this guitar - it\'s an Ibanez so it\'s going to be solid. Components wise it isn\'t quite up there with the MIJ Prestige range and doesn\'t have the \"special\" feel of the former - but as mass produced guitars go it\'s an absolutely fantastic instrument.

The most immediate competitors I can see for this guitar are the Epiphone SG and the Mexican Strat (I own both of these as well) and I reckon the SA can do the job of both (it blows the epi right out the water, and certainly stretches the strats legs). So if either of those are on your shortlist have a look at the \'nez as well.

One of the best aspects about the SA design is that it\'s light and small - it makes it effortless to play and this is not at the expense of tone.

Good points - wide range of sounds, nice neck, flash binding and the duo bucker. Excellent build quality. This guitar is worth every penny - and is excellent value for money.

Bad points - only available in 2 colours, some people don\'t like the position of the jack, bridge can be a bit fiddly. All those points are simply a reflection of preferences and don\'t detract from the fundamental playability offered by the 36 and the SA range in general.

So if your looking for a flexible \"multi-role\" guitar that\'s capable of gigging right out of the box the SAS36FM is worth checking out. It looks great, sounds great and has a build quality unmatched in its price range.
